Nice util. Just a suggestion for the encryption: You should consider using a password-based key derivation function (PBKDF) rather than just hashing the key once with SHA256. This could help deter brute-force attacks particularly if the chosen hashing function is computationally intensive; e.g. scrypt

Good article and a good reminder of how what is just a side project to the creator can be so important to its users.
It looks as if he's updated his forum software about as regularly as the site's main code because it's full of spam (http://forum.invoicejournal.com/). Might be worth fixing that as the consistent number of sign-ups and invoices suggests there is a community of users there to be fostered.

I wish the table of underlying data was available so that a logistic regression could be run to see whether variables like campaign contributions do indeed predict support for SOPA after age and number of years served have been partialled out.

Very nice! Speaking as a non-US resident, the fact that 'State' be a mandatory field in the profile registration form is a bit annoying but I can understand why that's the default. Maybe that could be optional if the country field is set to nations other than the US?
