Western Digital's WDTV Live can play any file you throw at it. http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330

It supports many online services as well, but unfortunately no Prime Instant Video. I have yet to see a box that offers everything I want: Local and network media playback, Netflix, Prime.

However, I wish the WDTV had better specs and UI - it can be a little clunky.

I'm on the verge of doing the exact same thing. On that plan are you able to use any of that data for tethering or mobile hotspot? A customer service rep said you can use all of your "up to 5GB" 4G data for tethering if you want, but I found that a little hard to believe.

I see very highly rated negative reviews all the time. They even make a point to show you helpful critical reviews.

Tangent: How on earth do product blogs not have a link to their product page? Nowhere is there a link to feedly.com in their header or sidebar, I have to manually edit the URL. Ridiculous.

That 25/month for one year on the free plan is only for 5Mb down, 1Mb up... not Gb speeds.

Well, that depends on your ISP and where you live. I pay $160/month for a higher-tier internet (Blast) and basic cable from Comcast.

Even if Apple was the first company ever to have a disappearing scroll-bar on a mobile device, I'm amazed something like that can be patented. To me it seems like a common sense evolution when shrinking things down to mobile proportions.

"You know there isn't much screen real estate here, so lets get rid of the bar, and only show the scroll head when you are scrolling. Good idea!" Why should someone be allowed to patent that?

It's like the first website ever to say, "We really have a lot of menu items here... I know, let's group them into sub-menus that 'drop-down' when you mouse over them?" Boom, drop-down menus are now patented, pay up if you want to use them in your website. Sure there were drop-down file menus on computers before this, but I'm the first one ever to do it on a website.

Can someone explain why the two are nothing alike and I'm an idiot for feeling this way?

I think he was referencing the Office Space comparison and Smykowski defending his job by saying he was good with customers.

This jacks up the header for me in Chrome.

I started using Everything (http://www.voidtools.com/) to help mitigate XP's slow searching and still use it today, even with Win7's much improved search functionality.

Everything Search only indexes file names, so you can't search via date modified or anything like that, but it is super-fast and supports regular expressions. Need to find a word doc that begins with 'ca'? Just type '^ca.*\.docx?', instant results.

It was bad form to just post a link without any background...

There is a well-known usability bug in Win7 explorer that the engineers are aware of but don't seem to care about.

Bug report: http://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsServerFeedback/feedback/...

More discussion: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-f...

I'm irritated because it seems the only attention given to Win7 is critical/security fixes, while any non-critical bugs will be ignored and the answer will be to simply buy the next version of Windows if you want the problem to go away. IMO a lack of attention to detail and caring about your users.

Thanks for that... Hadn't noticed HN automatically truncates long URLs.
