Samsung has always been creepy. You just didn’t know it.

Their smart TVs are a nightmare, and have been for the last 15 years (at least)

> Big Tech being issued 9-10 figure fines?

Are these fines ever paid? Or is it appeal upon appeal and 10 years later they pay a tenth of the fine?

France does protests more effectively. The government is paying attention there and trying very hard to hide the fact that the emperor has no clothes.

Not in the US either and it feels like Amazon is the only choice for some things.

Parent’s point still stands either way.

These policies + the despotic trajectory the US is on is very worrisome.

Imagine what such a government could do with access to all your emails, search history, video history, and web history? If you’re labeled “woke” or some variation of enemy of the state they have plenty of ammo to identify you and break you.

Speculative tangent but I don’t think trump will go away if he loses the elections. He’s made allusions to cancel elections if they don’t go his way next and I believe he’s capable of it. Wouldn’t be surprised if the US becomes a dictatorship next.

No, nothing so fancy. Just general legal insurance that would give legal advice and escalate to threats from their own lawyers, and eventually sue on your behalf or settle directly with you when the amounts aren’t worth their effort (like in this case).

I also had a debacle with Turkish airlines (I will never fly this shitty airline again, and discourage anyone to do so). They tried to get the airline to pay but were stonewalled and eventually paid us what the airline should have (a couple thousand euros).

Then they canceled our policy because we weren’t profitable risks anymore haha.

Yes, because “free” market deregulation has worked out so well for consumers over the last 30 years.

“Don’t like the monopoly? You’re free to go elsewhere. No wait, there is no elsewhere. Oh well, I guess you must like it here then since you keep coming back. “

> the minimum pay at Amazon is $20

The same way Uber Eats pay is 22$ an hour, and yet most people working either of these gigs need food stamps to live?

You can also buy the contact details (and phone numbers) to many execs for a few cents on platforms like rocket reach etc.

Or not. You just can’t tell. Sometimes they’ll swap materials and build something that is worse using the same blueprints and processes.

“Poorly made in china” was an edifying book to read.

1. You’d be surprised at how good counterfeits can look nowadays, including packaging

2. If you’ve never seen/held the genuine item or don’t have them side to side, it can be very difficult to tell which is the genuine one

> they just throw away the returns.

I have no more insider knowledge of how Amazon operates than you do, but judging on the amount of items I’ve received that were clearly used (stains, other people’s hairs, dust, dirt…) but sold as new I’m fairly certain they’ll resell everything that gets returns without even looking at the items.

Happened to me. I ended up holding the bag for about 400 EUR worth of items. Luckily I had legal insurance that tried to convince Amazon to take it back but they wouldn’t, so the assurance bought the box of stuff off me and refunded me.

Fuck bezos and Amazon. Since then, I always look for alternatives to Amazon to buy my stuff. I’ll use Amazon to see if I like it, return it, and go buy somewhere else. If I know the product I’ll just straight out buy it somewhere else. It’s often the same price or very close.

Some stuff you can’t really and practically get outside of Amazon. I don’t have a choice then. Because their quality is so low, I’ll just get 3–4 similar items and only keep the one that’s passably usable.

I try to cost Amazon as much money as I can. I hate to give them my money but by doing this it feels like I’m getting some payback for the way they treat their customers, employees, delivery people…

Switzerland really is fascinating. They do things like this while also having the most regressive and least restrictive rules around advertising tobacco (to minors and in general) and consuming it (basically anywhere you can see the sky or the outdoors. That includes parking garages, underground parts of train stations, bus stops, under kindergarten windows, and in virtually every accessible building entrance.)
