This is the worst take I’ve seen all day. I’m going outside.

I am not a mathematician. Why can a square of s = N not usually fit N * N unit squares? For example S = 4, one would naively (I guess) think it could fit 16 unit squares (4 * 4), but if I’m reading the above correct the actual solution is 15 (with what looks like a unit-square-sized space left over). Same for S = 5, and S = 6, but not for S = 2, which fits the expected 4 unit squares.

This seems interesting, is there a nitter version somewhere maybe? Or maybe someone can grab the image and upload somewhere that’s not twitter?

They work great for banging out POC apps or writing boilerplate code. This is a real use.

This is really interesting, worth a read. Wouldn’t be surprised if the even larger dinosaurs had even higher body temps!

It’s not an excuse, but gives some luxury of distance. We have a lot more hindsight now on how rotten things can become, so with that hindsight it’s easy to say that companies like Flock shouldn’t exist, or shouldn’t be invested in. Ten years ago required some more leaps in foresight that some people were making, I was, but even I didn’t think it would get as evil as it has.

The red blooded thing was tongue in cheek. Go visit California. Eat at In n Out. You may see a pumpjack next to the place you’re sitting enjoying your animal style fries. They’re pretty common. I don’t mind them really, but do find them to be equally / neutrally as a wind turbine in the area (also common sight in California), admittedly the wind turbine is sleeker and more modern, but the pumpjacks have more history.

Flock is a scourge on democracy. Flock is YC. But looks like they did YC nearly ten years ago. Who knows what their pitch deck looked like? If they pivoted since then to their current sinister incarnation? I don’t see any evidence that YC is still actively supporting them.

Benefit of the doubt: Funding them for a community/city-owned traffic camera type thing seems like it would have been a much more reasonable proposition than funding Flock for their current use case of allowing police to stalk their ex girlfriends or mistresses.

That would be an extremely bad trade.

I believe Manus was a Chinese company.

Exactly. I prefer seeing pumpjacks and hydrofracking equipment, just like all red blooded capitalists.

Didn’t China force Meta to unwind Manus? In no way is China embracing entrepreneurs wholeheartedly.

It’s AI slop from a cogsucker

Love this. Also love that this is coming from someone with expertise who, based on comments below, takes quality seriously. Particularly cool when juxtaposed against one the other day “Any Human Ever” which was at first enthralling and joy-inducing, but upon deeper inspection was just a slop factory spreading misinformation across the internet.

I do think it’s interesting that in a conversation about nazis where Elon musk hadn’t been mentioned, that’s the first place your brain goes.

You heard “Nazi” and immediately thought “Elon”. Curious.
