This is very much expected while the kinks are worked out. The reason Waymo is rolling out their vehicles in Atlanta in partnership with Uber is precisely for scenarios like this. Standard Uber service provides a backstop for when times when Waymos can't fulfill rides.

I was hoping the project would be like Twitch Plays Pokémon when I read the headline. Build the scaffolding and just let it run!

If they relocate engineers to Palo Alto, that's halfway between San Francisco and San Jose. And a lot of engineers (not necessarily at X but in general in Silicon Valley) live in the suburbs between SF and SJ already. It might be mildly less convenient for some, but also mildly more convenient for many.

This was me with Neeva but they sold out. I fully expect Kagi to do the same unfortunately.

They didn't actually launch anything though. And self-hosting is also a real pain. There can be reasons but I seriously doubt many IT departments yearn deeply for the on-premise deployment days of yore.

The worst part of this is how the Mobile Web experience is actively hampered on iOS by Apple. When web apps on mobile do have a worse experience for me, it is often due to Safari. This is especially frustrating because the average consumer blames the website for the poor experience and doesn't understand Apple is at fault.

For SF specific data on housing and zoning I highly highly recommend http://socketsite.com. Such a thorough and great resource! I only wish more cities had something like it!

This! I don't doubt that Bolt still requires a lot of work and honestly the 4 day work week is probably more marketing speak than anything real. But the world (at remote companies at least) has drastically changed and there is no reason to expect everyone to always have the same hours. Work when you need to to get your stuff done. Be around at pre-decided hours when you need to collaborate. But the rest is up to you.

It got worse during the pandemic. All policing stopped and downtown became a free for all. When I moved to San Francisco in 2016, I constantly had to reassure others it’s not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Now it is worse than media reports. I had someone threaten to stab me with a pencil when commuting to downtown at 9 AM. I had someone detached from reality and naked yell they wanted to kill me at 1 PM across the street from Salesforce Park. My home was broken into with my bike stolen and the cops told me there was nothing they can do. Then politicians tell you that there is no crime problem and you are just bigoted.

My eyes were opened when I went to Manhattan last summer and found it way safer and nicer than San Francisco. Finally getting out.

It really is that bad.

Also worth noting that AWS is not exactly the most stable either.

Any chance going through the process of updating all my cards could earn a Cashback key? :)

I thought this way until I realized I personally value portability over simplicity of signup. Most apps I use often I use on my phone and laptop. When I had an iPhone, I ran most subscriptions through IAP. As soon as I wanted to try Android, moving everything over was nearly impossible.

For most services I now sign up directly through a developer. I also find for services I subscribe to developers provide WAY better customer support than Apple.

I thought this until I tried an app with IAP and wanted a refund when it didn't work for me. The developer told me they had no way to issue one on their side since I went through IAP. Apple support gave me the runaround before eventually saying they don't do refunds, even when I showed emails from the developer saying they supported refunding me. Apple is not pro-consumer.

IAP is convenient, but I don't think Apple is truly motivated by the customer as much as they are charging a tax.
