What does individual freedom have to do with whether or not medicare will cover a preventive test?
Comment · 3 days ago
Of course someone will say this. It was flagged when I posted and until enough HN called them out on it, and so a more deniable approach was taken.

Seeing who owns Y Combinator, I’m sadly unsurprised that it was flagged.

I’m in NYC and I don’t make that kind of money.

No, they’re not aligned with patients at all. The root cause of all of this is the lack of problem of price transparency; and both hospitals and insurances fight to keep prices for service opaque.

95% seems like a made up number.

It’s very possible that I’m slow but using claude I still spend a good deal of time iterating on a PR with claude and on occasion, hand coding.

Same with documentation and engineering contracts.

If 95% isn’t a made up number, that’s a whole lot of work whose value I’d question.

Edit: Copilot CLI was pretty good, the last time I tried it. Has its quality degraded?

Except, that’s far short of the full responsibilities of the board.

With 84% of voting shares by the CEO, the board was setup to fail.

They had nine years and more money than god to build redundancy in an unstable region.

Right now, only a few labs have the resources to run frontier-level capabilities or large, open-weight LLMs that are effectively frontier.

Better attention can be given to open-weight LLMs that can be run locally and to help defend against attacks, filter against questionable content, etc. and without giving up privacy; but there’s apparently little to no incentive beyond the next great coding agent like Qwen 3.8.

I think both can be true: AI development must be slowed, but also question the motives of those in the lead given the stark benefits it gives those in the lead.

I'll get down-voted again by those who have a stake in this race, but I believe the long-term freedom and benefit for "everyone" will come from being able to run models locally.

This entire premise assumes that we can afford the factory machine.

Long term, can we? If not, what do we do once we’re addicted to the new process and it’s impossible to get out and from?

Before my time, but I believe SSN was and probably still is controversial in my circle. I definitely recall rumblings about it even 30 years ago.

But while cash is printed (physical currency): Not having an SSN becomes a major impediment but not impossible to make transactions and survive.

Our migrant workers—who are basically carrying white collar workers like me—are proof of this.

This is why I was always happier as a worker bee, over being responsible for an entire team or org.

You outlined the root cause: “our development team simply does not have experience with building, testing, shipping, and maintaining APIs, which has made my job as a PO/PM considerably more difficult.”

Do you have any authority or influence to change this, either through training, bringing in consultants (be very careful with this one), or worst case via hiring/firing?

At some point and for some tasks, predictability is important if not critical.

I’d rather use a tool where I know the limitations, over a tool where the limitations and strengths keep changing.

This way I know where in the process I ought to step in and pay attention.
