"Proper", "consensus", "discourse", "corrupted", "real democracy". You're an idealistic true-believer well beyond fault.

Most of those countries have not been democracies for very long. The United States used to have many of those checks and balances, all of which were systematically ripped out by the relentless political machine. Give it another century, and even with proportional voting or citizen's veto's, things will still probably end up in a similar state.

When you stop judging systems by their design intent and instead by their outcomes, it makes perfect sense. Democracies inexorably diffuse responsibility until its component entities are distant enough from punishment that hiding power levers becomes an easy advantage to grab for, whether the justification is internal or external conflict. All that's needed is for the necessary overseers to be rubber stamps.

Reticulum. Encryption-required mesh-routing alternative to the IP stack. Can route over just about any medium (piggyback IP, Lora, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB, microwave P2P, anything). Also future-proofed with support for high-bandwidth persistent connections.

Federation is annoying. Why does every Discord alternative insist that your whole interface, including the "server" list, is dedicated to one instance, as targetable and inconvenient as that is?

Each sidebar "server" entry should be an ACTUAL SERVER, with a unique username and connection. Like Mumble, Ventrilo, and Teamspeak. Federation is a strictly worse model than what they got right two decades ago.

Same for firmware, kernels, drivers, everything. I'm not an AI diehard but the medium-term potential for LLMs undercuts huge swathes of entire markets. For the long-term 10+ year vision, just put these capabilities in an open local model running on a 5W phone chip with no loss in quality or speed. Software rent-seeking will die, and for-purchase models are seriously threatened.

It's the only country in the hemisphere without another functional demonym. Posts like yours are vapid, pedantic, and tiresome.

I would think the dominating factors in Oregon and California are their uplifted soft geologies. The orogenies that lifted the West have resulted in an elevated, cliff-bounded sandy coastline along the Pacific that has been aggressively eroding for a lot longer than humans have been there.

If mass is proportionally equivalent to energy, then this can't be true. The photon is the fundamental energy unit. Right?
Comment · 1 month ago
Then wouldn't it be "one-photon"? I've heard (but don't fully understand) that massed particles are simply photons trapped in toroidal vortices, which gives them an outward charge field and lets them interact with the Higgs. Annihilation supposedly just being untangling the toroid.

Nim defaults to this kind of stack management and value semantics, except the `ref` and `ptr` trapdoors are there whenever you need them. So like this, Nim requires no memory annotations or semantics for good, safe default behavior.

Goose is a straightjacket by comparison. I've never enjoyed languages that plant a flag on one mechanism and force users to adapt.

I've only dipped my toe in, but it compiles fast code and works. Can't argue with results.

The turning point is approaching: Interest rates will gradually overtake all other gov't expenditures. All politics will revolve around shoring up the parasitic drain on the rest of absolutely everything.
