I’m also guessing that “in the club” from this person’s perspective is “studied mathematics long enough to have an academic career in the field,” and the other group that “genuinely enjoy math” are people who didn’t put in said work but can now watch in amazement as they prompt their way through something they fundamentally don’t understand.

Might as well grind up the tablet of complaint to Ea-nāṣir and make cement out it, right? What use could there be in preserving the mundane facets of everyday existence?

To play devils advocate, completely on the terms of your argument, would it be better for that particular human artifact to be shredded and its contents melted into an anonymized data pool, or for it to exist in a museum archive, in its original form, such that future generations can better understand what it was like to be alive in 1994?

I’d personally choose the latter, especially given that the 1994 tv guide is not going to meaningfully improve the utility of the language models.

Direct access to pre-digital history is drying up rapidly, why accelerate that for incremental benchmark gains in a domain that isn’t even relevant to the most useful forms of a nascent technology?

So what are your thoughts on tavern slot machines where legal? No chemicals but plenty of people who will openly tell you they wish they weren’t doing thus while they cash out a 90% loss and buy another beer to head back in for another round of punishment

I’d bet that an exceptional legal team could make a pretty solid case based purely on the volume and testimony of behavioral psychologists on their payroll

You’ve not already noticed that the end of every consumer-facing LLM chat always includes an invitation for just one more turn to keep the loop going?

It’s such a joke. But we also need to find ways to study and measure non-gambling digital platform addiction like 15 years ago. Thanks to algorithmic consumption, we’re nearing a whole generation of adults that have no idea how to navigate their societal agency and 3 trailing generations that had once learned and since forgot.

This is well executed and stupidly amusing - can I get an APK port for my android handheld? Would make for a fun game night with some buddies

More importantly, the US isn’t the one welcoming someone holding a US passport, so the phrase is nonsense and reflects a complete lack of understanding or at least thought as to the purpose of the document

We can’t even make expensive versions of those goods

I’d suggest considering empathy once you get past the anger, their former selves would be equally repulsed by their behavior, and for many I expect their current selves feel similarly despite their lack of control. The villains here aren’t the broken people.

First search returned a Reddit post describing it as “Ruqqus was a "free speech" website. You were totally safe to say whatever you wanted there as long as you weren't a liberal or a Jew”

Good riddance

It’s fine that a secondary consequence is them showing their foolish hand; I’ll give you that, but this not normal and should not just be absorbed as though it’s normal and that’s just what we call it now

Because they used millions of dollars of American citizens’ tax revenue to make a meaningless edgelord gesture, amongst a myriad of other reasons why it’s a bizarre and childish thing to do. Stopping there because this isn’t Reddit
