Since FAT32 doesn’t journal I wonder if this affects the chances for corrupting data.

Next step: run Qwen inside of the Qwenputer. I want more layers of inefficincy!

Unrealistically, sometimes I wish we’d have a “year of bugfixing” - where no new features are allowed across the entire industry. Heck, even a month of bugfixes could do a lot of good.

> Danfoss said the affected cold units were older models whose security software could not be updated to ward off a risk they had identified.

I feel like this is kind of holding the supermarket hostage and saying, “Sure your freezer is working fine, but if you refuse to buy new freezers from us prepare to get hacked.”

Sure you can argue that the supermarket should have just taken the old freezers offline. But you can also argue that the manufacturer could have supplied software updates but didn’t in order to force sales of newer models.

What’s the Microsoft angle here? A few years ago they were ready to hire anyone from OpenAI that was willing to leave. Is it just catering to the anti-AI sentiment going around?

No mention of harmonics? Seems like a pretty big omission. I’ll admit I didn’t read the whole article but this seems like a classic, “I did the math but never actually touched the thing” type miss.

Also, Z-wave’s frequency is a bit better at handling things like metal electrical boxes - useful if you live in an older home.

Anecdotally, I have Z-wave, Zigbee, and WiFi devices. Z-wave and WiFi are far more reliable than zigbee.

I have Quantum and a UCG fiber. IIRC you only have to turn off vlan tagging on the ONT, and then set DHCP and the vlan tag on the UCG. If you try to keep the vlan tag on ONT you will get horrendous latency. The ISP still shows as CenturyLink.

Change my mind: The complexity of ZFS isn’t worth it except in certain specialized situations.

It’s different because those were singular technological advances, each in their own niche. They spread out change between time, geography, and industries.

The fear is this will replace engineers, scientists, accountants, lawyers, service workers, etc, etc all within a small time window.

Investment types have shown repeatedly that their primary concern is money, not workers. There is no reason to believe that those currently in power are open to sharing their wealth or influence.

> clocks are less sensitive to environmental perturbations and can function without extreme cooling. This “opens a possible route to compact and robust optical clocks”

> drifting over the course of a day by only the equivalent of around one second in three million years

If these can be made reasonably cheap, even with a much higher drift rate, I, for one, would welcome the replacement of quartz-based clocks and their tendency to drift wildly in datacenters.
