I don’t know much about lol or fighting games but the starcraft pro scene exploded after a gambling/match fixing scandal back in 2010! The first wave absolutely had this problem

Solution is extremely simple, fly the candidate out for an in-person interview. A one-time plane ticket is a tiny expense compared to paying for the company to be a fully in-office operation, or paying a fraudster's salary.

Onsite interviews were a normal practice just a few years ago.

I have an LG washer/dryer as well. On mine, you need to rotate the large central knob by one "click", then the buttons start to work.

Why? No idea.

This depends on your size and activity level. The last time I dieted, I was losing a pound a week on 2700 calories. 1400 would have been a severe crash diet.

The article you linked says that Chiquita was extorted into illegally paying money to a Colombian death squad, who also murdered people, and were ordered to pay restitution to the victims' families. It doesn't say that they paid the death squad to murder people on Chiquita's behalf.

This is very program-dependent. In my department, approximately everyone was funded by NIH, with a few NSF.

My family leaves me alone when I'm on a call, but feels free to interrupt if I'm quietly working. Sometimes, I enjoy the company, so I don't want to tell them to never do this, but I also sometimes need focus time. The sounds of a call provide an audible signal that This Is Don't Interrupt Dad Time.

In other words, for at least some people, it's not pretending to work so they can slack off, it's pretending to be in a meeting so they can actually work.

I imagine that in-office workers with disruptive coworkers might want to do something similar.

I’ve been getting back into starcraft 1, and although there’s automatic matchmaking now there are still several old-style communities

> It's simply not practical for parents to commit all the hours needed for full time home schooling 9 till 3:30PM every day

This is a “tell me you don’t homeschool without telling me you don’t homeschool”

No homeschooling family I ever met has set hours, and most spend far less time than that daily. Schoolwork takes a lot less time when you cut out the crowd control, distractions, “pledging allegiance” and other nonsense

Edit: I see I missed the joke

That doesn't make any sense, "Them just object to..." would be ungrammatical nonsense.

Amazing to see M-A posted here. Spent way too many hours in my youth scouring the internet for things I could add and correct. I still have an ancient account with full edit access, frequently make changes on behalf of people in my local scene because "request a change" as become fairly unresponsive on account on the insane size of the site.

I still remember when they got to 10k bands. I think this must have been around 2003-2004. And people were speculating about whether there where another 10k metal bands in the world. Crazy.

For what it’s worth I have nearly complete aphantasia and I enjoy mccarthy’s descriptions very much.

But if the quotes do nothing for you, his stories probably will not either.

It uses a lot of the same "hostile architecture" techniques that public spaces use to keep homeless people out. There's literally nowhere you can get comfortable, unless you want to lay on the ground in the middle of traffic.
