wrong: IPCC AR6 puts the warmest Holocene stretch (~6.5 ka) at about 0.2-1°C above 1850-1900. 2011-2020 already beat that

or, gambling is proven addictive, has provable financial costs to others.. and is therefore regulated. Precedent in Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, some medications, other things.

In other words, in a very free and fair society, I personally see the need for regulation and oversight for this activity. Is that a carte blanche for surveillance and command-and-control things? no .. this is not new, the media over which it takes place is new.

the way I read this passage - author claims to be not a particularly skilled or fast-paced practitioner, and yet it is true that author is using agents like this. Next, very advanced researchers -- in the heart of the AI Frontier industry -- are using many more agents with much larger actions.

The "median developer" refers to the particularly skilled or fast-paced, not that there are continuous numbers of every practitioner using N-agents

An Oregon State official came on to a State of California zoom meeting as an invited speaker. The Zoom meeting was public, but niche.. maybe the man did not realize it, or maybe just had confidence. The Oregon State govt bureaucrat described in detail a two-layer system for storing certain public records, such that the records subject to Freedom of Information Act were "not available" to the public facing system. The bureaucrat said quote "this is designed to avoid public information requests". I assume that he thought he was in a closed meeting of California bureaucrats to use such language openly.

similarly, someone please explain why a free citizen would voluntarily use a Google DNS service that builds profiles and extensive activity records on its users

> US threw this out of the window starting with the Patriot Act

there are branches of govt in the US system, not a single entity. Even the almighty secret police have been curtailed many times.

Believe me, not everyone is onboard with this approach to surveillance

this approach of calling critics "whiners" then making sweeping, naive statements regarding both capital-S Science and also markets, is shallow.

The West collectively has touched markets with Science using concepts of property rights. All of that is upturned now. I agree that publishing portals like Elsivier have done damage to Science while enriching the company and its allies. However that complaint looks quaint compared to literally four military-industrial groups running all new discoveries and their commercialization.

This is not resolved at all...
