Candy corn doesn't contain HFCS. Corn syrup and HFCS are not the same thing.

Isn't the intent of rejecting, or boycotting, a company supposed to cause a disruption in the first place? If the people boycotted a company into bankruptcy, because said company refused to change their behavior, would the people be in the wrong because it might hurt the users? No.

Yeah, I currently have 4 Macs.

Apple 2020 Mini - Sequoia - Music/DAW

Intel 2017 MBP - Sequoia (OCLP) - Software Development

Intel 2014 MBP - Sequoia (OCLP) - Board game tutorials and videos at the gaming table (dining room)

Intel 2012 Mini - High Sierra - Very retro video gaming (doesn't access the net)

Since I can't afford to buy anything anymore, I'm keeping these the way they are for a long time. As each one dies, so does my enjoyment of computing.

I was literally not aware of this. I don't know if I'm going to be coming back to this site anymore. I've got some thinking to do. I am so ridiculously anti-Flock that I am not willing to discuss it, because it would be a pointless conversation.

Yeah, it's infuriating.

Reddit does this. Every keystroke you type into a comment box is sent back to them. So, that means even if you decided to cancel posting something, they still receive what you wrote. I have been known to write responses that were harsh and angry, and I simply don't send. Sometimes it's therapy for me to think through something while typing whatever is in my head. Then I go back and edit once I have have thought it through. I don't want that info sent back. So, I tend to not involve myself with much online anymore. I don't want to expose myself to the thought police.

I find the browser the most unsafe piece of tech deployed.

I remember that good feeling when getting a new windows 9x machine up and running or installing a new video card, updating the graphics driver to get the display into 16M colors, and enjoying the darker teal. The color itself felt like an upgrade. When that brighter teal appeared you knew you didn't have the driver set, even before seeing any icons.

Man, I wish I could have the 90s back. I absolutely despise where we went with tech in the past decade. I suppose that's a me problem.

I agree. I think it's an escape hatch phrase for people to try to avoid criticism. A.I. tooling is so similar to a highly addictive drug. Users think they can control how much they use, they eventually start using so much, and eventually use the signs as any addict who cannot think for themself any longer. "I can stop using it any time. I'm not addicted. You don't know me!" It's denial at its finest. Nothing worse than somebody be believing that they're an expert at something, and again they know nothing. A.I. Should simply be deemed the Dunning-Kruger drug.

Because someone commenting leads to others spending time and effort responding. Deleting the comment breaks the chain. Don't comment if you feel that it's something you might want to delete. Think of commenting as like sending an email, but you get a short window to delete in this place.

Exactly. People buy those automated circular floor vacuums. Anyone can get it done with a regular broom/vacuum in a small fraction of the time it takes for those things. Just like I drive an electric car. It charges while I sleep. It doesn't matter if an ICE can fuel in a few minutes.

When I decided to leave my last job (I say last as I have no idea how to find work anymore), one of the top reasons is because they were pushing AI so hard on everyone. From support, development, management, to marketing, etc.. They started encouraging us to prompt AI for responses to questions from customers, co-workers, anyone and everything. The made us take mandatory "classes" on it. I lost my sh**. Things like "Oh, you don't need to waste your time responding to emails (even Slack) from people. You can use ChatGPT. A simple one or two line sentence can get you a few paragraphs!" Like, you want me to waste someone's time with a response that is not mine? Full of wasteful boilerplate just to make them believe they are reading a response from a person? Ugh. No thanks. Yeah, my ethics principals are going to be the end of me. I am fighting this AI trend with every fiber of my being, and I am losing everything because of it.

The only thing good to come out of LinkedIn is Kafka. That's it. I deleted my account about a year ago. It does suck, I lost all those "network connections" from past contracts and employers. It's so hard to keep up with people now. So many people rely on those dang third party sites. It did cause harm to me by leaving it, as I can't find a job. I have no idea how to find one anymore. That site got so bad that it became useless and predatory. It beat me down and caused my depression to worsen. I had to leave. I couldn't handle all the fake jobs, the calls that never happened, the constant filling out of applications (hey, Workplace you suck too, why can't we just allow each employer to see our resume when asked and not have 100+ accounts? Yeah, you're harvesting for others as well), the constant messaging from fake recruiters, the fake articles, the HR worshiping sycophants with their cringe posts... you know the list. It goes on an on. Ok, I'm done rambling. I'm depressed again. I'll run out of $ soon and then...
