"I have seen no substantiated claims that people die without access to food and medicine."

I guess someone should look into that

The LLMs don't have the moat that Apple has. Apple has carefully built their walled garden to keep people in. Their messaging, their cloud services, their media store, it all keeps users in.

LLMs don't have that. For at least 90% of users, the model in the back end is completely irrelevant to them. Switching to Kimi won't lose them their iTunes music.

I'm not sure what counts anymore. You've got OpenAI and Anthropic; then Meta, Google, and X; then over to Alibaba/Qwen, Z/GLM, Moonshot/Kimi, Deepseek; and Mistral in Europe. How many people out there in the real world can actually come up with tasks that differentiate those 10?

you're drawing a line between "showing" vs "surrendering" by physical possession. Well, there's a big difference between showing an ID at a bank and providing a copy to Google which they keep forever.

It's a very good font for me because I care very much about density. Iosevka is by far the highest horizontal density I've ever used. However I have usually fallen back to Consolas, which IMHO the greatest monospace font ever made. The density is very high and it is very readable. There is no doubt that Iosevka is more attractive, but for some reason Consolas "feels" better at similar density.

Are the limits restricted on launch day because of all the interest?

Imagine such a complex machine working without fail for 60 years. It's just not plausible in my view.

Perhaps I'm just an old dog that doesn't want to learn new tricks, but I still can't think of Python as typed and I never use type hints. I started with Python during the 2.3 era. I still view Python types as merely docs. So it's nice that someone tracks mypy quirks but I can't imagine relying on the results for anything serious.

Those are the aspects most relevant to HN, though.

I dropped my Pixel 8 and replaced it with a Pixel 10a. I'm perfectly happy and the lack of a camera bump is awesome. I don't intend to upgrade for quite some time.
