Netherlands is mostly rooftop solar, which is easy and cheap to install there. No permitting required, previous net metering policies gave a very predictable ROI and cost is very reasonable: say 3k eur for 8 panels including installation, that would get you like 3000kwh/year. Panels would be just over 2k, the crew to get it done like 600-800 euros. Electricity ain't electricity cheap there to the point the ROI would be just a couple years with the net metering. You'd be stupid not to get it at that point and a few thousand bucks is a very feasible investment for most people without having to resort to financing.

I live in Texas now where there's a lot more sun and a lot more electricity usage (though it's cheaper per kwh). Panels and inverters are a significant percentage more expensive due to tariffs and stuff, but that's not even the biggest cost driver. It's the permitting and installation costs that make it so so so much more expensive. If I could get a bunch of panels on my roof for $5k, they'd be there already. But typical costs I'm seeing is low five figures which is well beyond my appetite or electricity costs.

One of the oldest rules in F1 is that the driver must drive the car alone and unaided. That's been explained as no traction control, ESC, ABS brakes etc. etc.; Teams kept cheating so the only good way to prevent this was to standardize the ECUs.

They all run the same ECU and the same firmware on it, yeah. Teams can control some parameters though. It's to stop any kind of traction control.

There’s places where taking photos inside the voting box is illegal for this exact reason.

It is. We still run quite a few of them in prod and with 580 drivers they run just fine. Very useful GPUs still.

I think OP means more why politics hasn't changed this. Even at state level there's plenty of stuff that can be done about this but seemingly no one cares enough.

Temu has EU warehouses they appear to ship from: all return addresses I've seen are EU addresses.

They absolutely suck in HPC environments. Bunch of users running all types of code that can just LPE themselves to root, not a good scenario.

Capacitive touch screens when plugged in with cheap chargers to crappy waveforms, behave weird.

Better than expected as it's mixing userlands. We didn't put the entire /usr/lib of the old system in LD_LIBRARY_PATH but just some stuff like old libpng, libjpeg and the shebang. Taking an image of an old compute node still on RHEL 7 and then dumping it a container naturally worked, but at that point it's only the kernel interface you have to worry about, not different glibc, gtk, qt and that kind of stuff.
