Not necessarily. I’m over 40 now and had a total of 3 cigarettes in my life, all of them in my twenties, parties, hanging out with people smoking etc. Every time it was a terrible experience and I was amazed why people do this to themselves…

Perhaps the clue is in the past tense "supported". Nowadays browsers support many formats, but in the "olden days" gif was the only way to get animations in browsers without plugins like Macromedia Flash...

any way to find those rackable phone kvm things? My quick search came up empty. I might get someone interested in that. However, we're a very big European corporation, so "let's use social media fraud farms" and "hire talent from scam malls to build them" might not fly in a meeting :P

I work in a place where we have about 100 phones in a server room that we use for automated testing of mobile apps. A few phones get chucked out every year due to bloated batteries. We’ve even had one or two explosions. We have them well cooled now and in fireproof containers. We try to do some power management like automatically discharging them every once in a while etc…

Soo... 12 TWh? Isn't that why we have metric prefixes? So we don't have to say that there's 12 billion of something...

Was it so rare? I had A1200 and I think they were quite popular here in Europe. Don’t have any stats, though. My parents bought it used for me and the seller also threw in Monkey Island 2 on 11 floppies and that started my great love for point and click adventure games :) Later I’ve even added a hdd and cd-rom drive to it.

Is a Chinese robot vacuuming and mopping my floor every day? Yes it is. Could I do it better manually? Absolutely. I still prefer the robot to do an ok job than to do it myself.

Most of my thinking is non-verbal. I don't think in sentences. I CAN think in sentences and internally rationalize my actions and explain them and sometimes that's beneficial (rubber duck debuggin, sometimes it's good to verbalize and explain something) but usually I don't do it

Living through all mobile phone history, from non-existant when I was a child to today's smartphones, I would hesitate to use such absolute phrases like "X on the phone is never going to make sense". How many things we're doing on a phone today that we wouldn't dream of 20 years ago? Local models on phones don't make sense today but in 5 years? who knows...

If the isp doesn’t go down with the power outage you could probably get a big enough ups to keep the router and voip phone going for at least a couple of hours. Those things don’t use much power

Did the new Leaf get dumber? I have an old 2019 model and it’s connected. In the mobile app I see its location, turn on AC etc.

What are global alternatives? Every company is connected to some country, there are no global alternatives. I live in EU and want to use EU services mainly because I want this part of the world to prosper. I want to leave my money and incentivise innovation in this part of the world because this is where I live and I want a better life here for me and my kids. And alternatives are always good, especially that they’re not closed. People in the US can use services from EU companies as well :) why not?
