in the utopia where I don't have to care about money, yes, I agree that it would be not an issue caring for both. :)
A tax is usually applied to help facilitate maintenance for something you are using. Or to disincentivize "bad" behavior. For example i pay taxes in the US that directly help pay for public schools, the fire department, roads, etc.
How does the french government bear any cost if i download data from a data center? What bad behavior is disincentivezed with this tax?
agree - mostly. Anyone with a young child _and_ aging parents in poor health at the same time can tell you it's hell. Dealing with 1 at a time is a nice "calling" and way of giving back. both is...something i'd wish on my worst enemy lol.
I'm sure it's bad for adults as well, but school aged kids are in their formative years where learning how to talk to someone in real life is a skill that needs to be developed. Their brains are also not yet fully developed, so their time should be spent learning. Not fucking around in class on tiktok.
I was a student at one point myself and also wasn't able to use my phone in school. Boo-hoo? It's a bit like being a kid and complaining to the adults in the room that they don't let you smoke and drink.
my spouse and I (30s) had no problem sitting through the new Spider-Man movie without opening up our phones.
There's plenty of higher end, actually really expense stuff out there. Austin Air is $$$ (but also a top performer): https://austinairsystems.com/collections/air-purifiers
my spouse had a vaginal delivery and had some tearing. So she goes to pelvic floor therapy for that. Once a week. She's also a breastfeeding mom and has a lactation consultant that comes to the house a few times a month. As the father i need to make sure someone (or I) can watch baby during those appointments.
then of course, for baby, there is the occasional pediatrician appointment. my kid needed some physical therapy due to a neck issue (always leaned head toward one side). The physical therapist was amazing with that, but during that process we discovered that he had a very weak core, and so we continued physical therapy for a couple months afterwards as well. so that's about 4 to 5 appointments a week just for baby.
Then there are regular appointments you also need as a functioning adult… Dental cleaning, PCP appointment, etc.
then, while all of this is happening, you are somehow trying to schedule a tour with various daycares (via email usually) so that your child has some place to go if you eventually need daycare. and all of this is happening while one of you is probably trying to work a 9 to 5 job.
so in summary, maybe I'm crazy, but that's a lot of shit to deal with when you also have to deal with poor sleep and learning how to be a parent at the same time. I'm burnt the hell out and i have an "easy" baby. Heaven help you if you have a difficult kid.
And once they start school there's an endless amount of deadlines and "reminders". A personal assistant that can automatically keep your reminders + calendar up to date based on your inbox would be very nice.
It gets even more fun if you have an aging parent at the same time as you have young kids. Then you get double the appointments to scheduled, coordinate and keep track of.
So when you say people don't need a personal assistant, i feel like you're living on a different planet. I suppose when i was single things were more "simple". Your mileage may vary of course...
The ICA says it considers factors including family ties to singaporeans, economic contributions, qualifications, age, family profile, length of residency, ability to integrate into Singapore society, and commitment to “sinking roots” in Singapore.
Emphasis on:
> ability to integrate into Singapore society, and commitment to “sinking roots” in Singapore.
It turns out, immigration problems are usually a "skill issue". It _can_ be done well.
But will you be hired to do video editing on a tablet? REAL work like for a media company or movie studio? No. ipad skills are mostly irrelevant if your goal is to be employable. The advanced animations and workflows are not being done on tablets. Most people like being employable.
At least kids in the 90s learned how to use a desktop, which directly translated in some way to an office job.
learning is not a passive activity. likewise an llm can be used in a passive or active fashion.
I think it can be OK if AI is used to polish up one’s message or to help structure it. Basically help with grammar, formatting, and wording.
But copy pasting an AIs response to a question? Not at all. People earn a reputation over time. TRUST is earned. An AI cannot earn trust. If you copy paste an AI response verbatim, i need to read everything in your message with a big grain of salt. Imagine doing this all the time as a reader? Exhausting and a waste of others time. If i want to read raw AI output i’ll ask the AI directly, thanks.
If you write something in your own words, or at least synthesize an AI response before sharing it with me, then i know i’m reading something that has at least passed the smell test.
It’s the difference between reviewing a pull request from an intern and a principal software engineer.
unfortunately, this isn't one of those things you can plan your way out of. It's just part of dealing with life. if you're lucky, your parents will start having health problems once your kids are in school and don't need round the clock care at home. If you're unlucky, well, good luck lol
