The Pi zero is dead to me. Price might be one thing but lack of availability makes it useless. I like running Merves on it but will move to AtomVM and Esp32 where I can.

Your edit made me laugh. I had to delete a sales rep contact I used to deal with but no longer because Siri would call her instead of my wife as they both have the same first name. It was embarrassing and then I thought started to look creepy. But she has a common name and would call the others with the same name. Siri is bent out of shape.

It’s been a long time since I did the work and lost for details. The biggest issue we had was noise reduction when there was an upstream event. Could be a network issue and so meter reads were not expected to come in, so don’t send someone out to check the meter or do deeper analysis. Storm or other related outage, both diagnose and then quiet follow on events with a service ticket to acknowledge. Further we would build the history of events and if a meter or device wasn’t responding without the other broader events then create a service ticket to analyze or to send a technician out. This was all custom rules. Not sure how transferable it is as different utilities will have different ways of viewing and actioning. Interconnected are somewhat different. North America is also very different than say Germany or Brazil which I had a little bit of experience with. Wish I had more details.

I've used rete based CEP tool in the past for utility operations event management. We could tag the rule used to the event or event aggregate, but it was on a single node basis and a basic aggregate. If there was more coverage in understanding it would be a big help to operators. Based on say a set of outage events, can it further understand if it weather event, equipment failure, scheduled maintenance, etc. Linking it to possible operating procedures based on a broader understanding of the state would be very useful.

I think this is where Carney landed. Trust is gone. Further, the US and the world would have a precedence in dealing with Canada. Accepting a bad deal would maintain an illusion that this was good enough and to continue on in this direction. Once Trump is gone the negotiations could restart but at a much less valuable position to Canada.

Canada has had a long term investment and productivity challenge with too much focused on North and South. I suspect that this is now the catalyst for East and West investment.

I think the calculation was that no deal and the natural consequences are not that much worse than the deal on the table short term. And taking into account the future of the above it was going to be worse.

I’m in my fifties and taking a break from work and have now found myself reading Macbeth, Doctor Faustus, along with Gibson’s Sprawl trilogy. My movie watching is now much more auteur and reaching for the unconscious and immaterial experience.

I’ve wonder if I was taught Shakespeare too early, but see it more as an Easter egg or gift waiting for me to catch up. I think more so I was so focused on the rational I was ignoring the other parts though fully immersed in being the other part. Now I see it and appreciate so much have the right lens from early teachings with my experiences. And to your point continuing to learn.

Cool to see a history of engineering development of something I take for granted. The present game of engineered complexity and incompatibility would make an interesting second part.

It isn’t clear but did metal mining get more efficient or just more of something else got in there like plastic parts reducing demand (+metal prices work off big cycles)?

Food is an interesting one as substitutes like pink slim and wood pulp seem to be replacements for real food to keep prices down. Natural fibers for clothing is another area where plastic and almost plastic fibers are replacing natural.

I have generally two problems with clothing. I’m in the 1% for height and I get skin rashes on my upper body from mostly unnatural fibres. Sizes have tended to narrow, particularly pants. And it’s getting harder and more expensive to find clothing with all or very high percent of natural fibres.

If looking blind at an object like an inflation statistician might look at it, all is good, but a little deeper and I suspect we are having a lot more inflation when we look at apples to apples. (And I get the point that replacement is part of the ingenuity of people but not all things are living there).

It isn’t that straight forward but I use Firefox on Linux along with my iPhone and Mac. My workflow is to use Passwords and Hide my on safari and then Firefox there after on the Apple device. Firefox then saves the login details and it shows up on my Linux + Firefox desktop. Not ideal, kinda dumb, and takes away a little bit of faith in humanity, but I don’t have to type in the details.

Is the death of the AI race in the US? Did we already reach the end? Peak AI. If so this will kill the speculative hype on data centres and GPUs. It will be interesting to see how the market absorbs and reacts to this.

Yawman, being on Linux for everything else feels great. In a personal way (rather than technical) it’s like being back in my 20’s hacking Redhat and FreeBSD. I also find the community support is great when I’ve run into the odd issue. My FPS are good and I don’t think about it.

I select games based on ProtonDB. There’s always constraints and I’m cool with the limitations that this brings. BF6 is a no-go due to its anticheat tool, no problem. Got lots of other choices.

Ya, I want it even bigger. All commercial claims should be accessible for your own determination. Fastest, biggest, longest, widest, shortest, most liked, doctor recommended, any empirical claim must have the data used and calculations to make the claim available for examination. Data storage is so cheap now. I don't see it as a dent to anyone's profit.

When you say just Cortex it is ambiguous as there is Cortex Search, Agents, Analyst, and Code.

Cortex Code is available via web and cli. The web version is good. I've used the cli and it is fine too, though I prefer the visuals of the web version when looking at data outputs. For writing code it is similar to a Codex or Claude Code. It is data focussed I gather more so than other options and has great hooks into your snowflake tables. You could do similar actions with Snowpark and say Claude Code. I find Snowflake focus on personas are more functional than pure technical so the Cortex Code fits well with it. Though if you want to do your own thing you can use your own IDE and code agent and there you are back to having an option with the Codex Code CLI along with Codex, Cursor or Claude Code.
