Wow! You haven't posted in over 5 years. This was worth the wait.

" I had the BBS running on that within a few hours." Is this because the 6502 opcodes are a subset of the 6510 ? Did anyone encourage and assist your curiosity or was it just you and an advanced Commodore technical/reference manual ?

Related I did C64 computer repair in high-school and also lived in NYC. I sold modified peripherals to work with Commodore's Amiga, or game accessories like a parallel port attachment to allow 4 joysticks on games (e.g., Gauntlet). I shipped COD (cash on delivery) and advertised for free on BBS's. It was exciting and I was able to eventually qualify for in-state tuition at ASU partly from the money I had earned over those years ensuring I could afford to graduate.

My father encouraged me to avoid elevators and escalators to the extent possible. He worked in a high rise and used the stairs for the first 6 floors of the building. People would see him come out of the stair well on the sixth floor to catch the elevator the rest of the way. Some coworkers eventually picked up this habit. He's 87 and is one of the healthiest people I know.

It's not just elevators and LLMs, we should regularly question all our technology usage. I needed to solve a statistical problem recently and it is easy to brute force an approximation by running a few million iterations on a computer. But I forced myself to attempt a theoretical solution first. It only took a few minutes to rejuvenate concepts and "foundational cognitive ability" that would otherwise be fading.

Returns are already a major expense for wholesalers and retailers. Hopefully accounts using chatbot agents will have to pay a restocking fee on returned items that is partly paid to the wholesaler.

Perhaps this post is merely for publicity's sake much like retailer's cryptocurrency support claims in 2018.

The correct term is "chatbot" in most cases. I've witnessed people make dumb decisions somewhat blindly because "AI" recommended it. If they had called it a chatbot maybe some skepticism would have kicked in.

Fun site and your Muse is a near match to Meta's.

Curious, did you come up with the name "Muse" and make the character art ? Or did you and Zuck coincidentally use similar LLM prompts. If Meta's version was AI gen'd they wouldn't be able to copyright it suggesting it's likely human designed. But if that human design is a derivative of your art, which it seems to be, then they wouldn't have copyright either.

More mind blowing, that entry took _second_ place! First place would probably break my brain for the day so I won't look it up.

"People who spoke two languages had brains about six... three about seven... and four roughly 13 years younger."

I am fluent in at least 10 programming languages. Do those count ? Probably, if this study revealing a hidden correlation such as socioeconomic level. But they did reference that possibility.

"The researchers adjusted their analysis for factors including age, sex and education... lifestyle and social engagement, could also contribute to the differences they observed."

"but as long as we all believe it has value, it does".

Would one argue that an airplane is a _story_ ? If no one believed in the technology and lost faith in all pilots no one would fly. But that doesn't change the reality of the technology and competence of the pilots.

I get the sentiment, but I am not sure _story_ is the right word.

From personal observation, many Christians see oil as a unlimited natural gift from God and view alternative energy sources with disdain. Not sure if that was a deliberate strategy on Big Oil's part but it effectively solidifies massive political support.

By similarity if Thiel can equate AI regulation or restricting government AI funding with the Antichrist he could guarantee political support for decades.

I don't recall Thiel ever lecturing about religion or the Antichrist prior to his involvement with government contracts. It's hard to believe any of this is sincere.

Agreed that initially referring to it as "brain tumor" would have been fine.

Thanks for sharing your story too, perhaps this condition isn't rare. Coincidentally I once went into bar and vaguely recognized a roommate I hadn't seen in years. His appearance had changed and he now had remarkable Hulk like features. I restrained myself from asking but I honestly thought he looked great.

We chatted and he shared that he had "brain surgery" 2 weeks(?) prior to remove a tumor on his pituitary gland. He just woke up one day and his vision was distorted. The next day he woke up blind which lead to him getting a diagnosis and surgery. The tumor had also caused pituitary disfunction which induced giantism.

If I recall, the surgery was performed going behind his nose through an incision in his mouth above the posterior of his upper lip which differs slightly from the approach in the OP. It's amazingly fortunate that this is an option given it looks inoperable from the MRI.

I'll also share that towards the end of our conversation he thanked me for not commenting on his appearance and that he was self-conscious. It's compelling, especially when someone looks good, to mention it, but there's no need to lead with it.
