In what sometimes feels like a Linux world, it is good to be reminded of some of the excellent quality projects and codebases in the BSD projects. We still have a few Open and Free BSD servers running, as they are basically rock solid, and have a much slower rate of evolution, and decent stability, unlike some of the Linux distros we run, where constant rejiggling of the underpinnings, init system etc, were a bit painful.

In other news, a UI toolkit becomes abandonware. World still spins, over to you Kent for the weather.

Having attended a top Uni and a not-so-top Uni (long story; two different degrees), the single reason people aim and attend for the top Unis is the attached prestige, the network of contacts you will make (and hit up via alumni), and the doors it then potentially opens. The best tutors by far, who made themselves more available, who seemed more grounded than pure ivory tower academic, were in the less-than-top Uni.

My experience, ymmv.

Python really is taking centre stage these days - glad to see. I still use R sometimes, but my Python usage grows daily. Also nice I can stick a web front end on things via Django or Flask.

Bonuses - the single incentive that turns colleague against colleague, after all, it is not enough to get a bonus, but if you can make out your colleague under delivered, maybe you can grab a share of their potential bonus pie slice too.

See this every day in a large Investment Bank. Bonus chasing bastards do not protect or grow the brand, they just ensure short term decisions remain the order of the day.
