The issue with this is that datacenters are inherent "suck" machines. It takes a lot more effort and cost for them to not suck then for them to suck, so "sucking" is part of their core design.

Up till recently, they were a rare enough object that distressed communities still saw the glitz and glam that they are sold with as valuable. Now that brutalist assholes are trying to jam them in every nook and cranny of the earth, word is getting out and people aren't buying it anymore.

There have been some attempts to try floating or water immersed data centers that mitigate or at least hide some of their suckiness, but these were hard and costly, so the incentives weren't there to do them anyway. Maybe now those ideas will resurface and improve, but I expect "bribe, con or sue rural community to destroy their quality of life" is still cheaper and easier.

"Things on my phone cost more, so its clearly a better phone."

Based on the above stat, it sure seems like Androids more versatile and inexpensive for a much larger group of users.

Hmm...that sounds familiar....

I can't find the link youre referring to in the vague chaos of this thread, but based on his current donations to a virulently anti immigrant party, it sure seems like your partners feelings have changed about open boarders since it was written. Why is he unable to speak for himself on this matter?

If open boarders are only acceptable when you can refuse immigration based on ethnicity, then no, you do not support open borders. When you work to forcably eject not only first but second generation immigrants, people born in Sweden, based on their ethnicity, you do not support open borders.

The above looks to be a core tenat of Daniel's prefered political party based on their own statements, so its extremely disengious to discuss some old article about supporting free movement while he's actively donating to people who want to brutalize hundred of thousands of Swedish residents because they are the "wrong type" of people.

So your stance seems to be "It's okay to fund Nazis as long as you like what they have to say about the trains running on time."

I understand that you want to defend you business and your friend, but signing up with the Nazi party means you sign up with all of it. I find it highly unlikely your cofounder was unaware of the rest of the racist and viscous rhetoric when he opened his checkbook to buy the party the equivalent of a house.

Mullvad likely makes good money, but thats not a casual "I read this one article and didn't look into it deeper" kind of donation for anyone.

What are you inferring here? That your friend only makes moral choices, so this one should be judged through the same lense?

What "moral choice" specifically was Daniel supporting?

The primary financier of a political party that calls immigrants "parasites" does not support open borders.

Claming otherwise is at a minimum disengious, but with absolutly no clarification from Daniel directly, it just reads like you are lying about his stances for PR.

The above isn't believable. He gave $500,000 to a political org that has explicitly called immigrants "parasites," dehumanizing phrasing that mirrors Nazi speech and has been used to justify mass murder.

He is in fact the main financial patron of this racist political party. Saying he supports open borders at the same time is just a flat non sequitur.

The poster is the treasurer too. How can he not know where the money is coming from and what constraints its beholden to?

Wildly unprofessional or just willful lying.

Why would someone contribute to Ruby central now, when the org has been shown to be callous and incompetent stewards who are utterly incapable of showing even minimal respect to their community?

One week is a big part of the idiocy here. Anyone half busy with anything is going to miss miscellaneous bullshit from management like this, especially when management is prone to these "flights of fancy" with random tooling or the new hot thing.

I personally ignore or delay things all the time because of actual work I'm doing. If running some random AI tool is more important than "keep the company working," that's a really sick and fragile culture.

Self-driving car companies dont want a unfiied signalling platform or other "open for all" infrastructure updates. They want to own self-driving, to lock you into a subscription on their platform.

Literally the only open source self driving platform, from trillion to billion to million dollar companies is comma.ai, founded by Geohot. Thats it. Its actually very good, and I bet they would welcome these upgrades, but that would be a consortium of one underdog pushing for them.

Literally yes. They knowingly offloaded their collusion to a 3rd party and an "algorithm" in order to illegally profit from a cartel.

It's happening in more than just housing too. This also happens in food stuffs like potatoes.

The police reached out to Tesla legal within days and asked if they needed a subpoena. The Tesla lawyer said no, but then directed the police to make their request in a specific way that hid relevant data from police and the victims. It took 5 years to get the data, and only then after a forensic engineer proved Tesla uploaded it by finding logs on the cars black box and after the court was leveling sanctions.

Should companies be intentionally misleading to law enforcement about what data they have on fatal accidents like Tesla?

Look into XCP-NG. Its an excellent implementation of xenserver with a vsphere style single pain of glass called xen-orchestra. Its all FOSS and buildable from source.

It comes "batteries included" with backups/vsan/etc for an insanely reasonable "per host" license cost for support.

An ideal side effect of over overbuilding solar 5x for winter is that you could then use that spare solar in the other 3 seasons to make green hydrogen, an energy intensive process, to power retrofitted gas plants. You could store and ship excess gas as well, creating an adhoc "green energy interconnect" with other nations.
