I wrote a simple Tampermonkey script:

(function() { 'use strict';

    // Background Color
    let el = document.querySelector("#hnmain")
    el.style.backgroundColor = "#1A1B16"
    el.style.color = "lightgrey"
    document.querySelector("body").style.backgroundColor = "#1A1B16"

    // Font Color
    document.querySelectorAll("a").forEach(one => { one.style.color = "lightgrey" })
    document.querySelectorAll(".c00").forEach(one => { one.style.color = "lightgrey" })
})();

Why is Chinese cabbage so commonly seen in high-end jade carvings in China?

It's because the Chinese word for cabbage, baicai(白菜), sounds like "hundred fortune(百财)".

And there are many similar symbolic expressions in traditional Chinese culture.

I use a 2019 27-inch iMac every day. I replaced its internal drive with a 1TB SSD myself, and it handles all my work needs perfectly. I use Ghostty for remote server access and Parsec to remotely control my Windows PC.

Big thanks to the Manticore team—you've done brilliant work in the full-text index space.

I have been using Sphinx for decades, and now Manticore is the perfect replacement.

But I just realized the current version is v27, and only six months ago I was on v15. That’s some aggressive versioning!

try Manticore Search, it's much more lightweight

I have been working with PHP for 20 years, and in 2026, it is still great. Despite there are many other options available these days, most of the time, PHP is good enough. "Good enough" might just be my motto as a programmer. I love PHP.

In 2026, you should learn "Modern C++" instead of "C++".

And, about "Modern C++", the book <Professional C++, 6th Edition> is definitively one of the best.

Almost every Chinese person is familiar with this myth and its characters. When I was a child, I used to watch the TV series multiple times every year.

This mythological story not only features vivid characters and a grand setting, but also contains subtle metaphors about life philosophy that continue to be interpreted to this day.

Actually, no decision is simplely good or bad.

Continuing to work at my current company would certainly be more comfortable, and I wouldn't have to endure any struggles, but that's not the life I want.

Like you, I can't stand working on projects for others; this stems from my personality. It's undeniable that most people can tolerate it, even if they don't enjoy it.

It was after 7 or 8 years of starting my own business that I began to see decent financial returns. Looking at the entrepreneurial journeys of other programmers around me, it's roughly the same pace. So if you are going to start a similar journey, remember to tell yourself every day that tomorrow will definitely be better.

BTW, Why is it so difficult to get started?

I looked back and realized that it's because we are targeting an incremental market.

If we were aiming at an existing market, it would likely be much easier.
