Propagandists have long figured out that you don't have to control people's thoughts and opinions. You just need to go into their public forum and say some outrageous shit, it doesn't have to be right, well thought out, you just need to shout some shit, so that you get to control the topics that people talk about.

Everytime something about EU tech sovereignty is posted, comments with sentiments like OP are posted within the first several minutes. Because they're outrageous (anger-inducing) they get a lot of comments telling them off, an resultingly will be presented prominently on the page.

How much effort and resources does it really cost to have some bots doing this kind of stuff on a couple of well-visited platforms? As techies we should understand that it's basically costs no resources, time and effort. Therefore we should expect these kinds of influence operations on public forums like these.

> They are politically and societally paralyzed from building even basic things

Lmao. Says the country that is to politically paralyzed to even maintain roads and sewers.

Honestly that sounds like a ridiculous scenario. Your community should have never been built in a location without municipal services. Because you did you took up the responsibility for those 'municipal' services. And now you have a hard time to deliver those services, because you lack the funds that would come with a real municipality and taxes.

So instead you put this burden on the people living there, who presumably are already paying some form of taxes?

What's the point of all this? Give up ownership of your own house and frontyard, so you can pay dues, to get access to services that would be free with a real municipality?

I don't know what you're talking about. As you said mail hasn't changed that much, I've been using Thunderbird all that time, and except for an improved default theme, they honestly haven't changed much about their core features. In that time I was able to remove several plugins that have been added to core thunderbird, like threaded conversations, google calendar and contact support.

I think the biggest change has been that people nowadays expect more from a regular email client.

That comment on the substack is incredibly depressing. And the author liked it! That commenter should call his mom more.

I love this. Most readmes are plain bad. I think the most egregious is when a readme doesn't state what the project does. I get that not every project is aimed at the public, but if you go through the bother of creating a readme file, why not go the extra 10 centimeters by writing the most basic information? Other issues: * outdated (and thereby wrong) information * using un-introduced abbreviations (bonus points for abbreviations that have common meanings, e.g.: EG, NB, IE, ETC)

> the total extermination aspect in particular is a novel aspect of farming culture

Perhaps there wasn't a change in culture, but rather that farmer tribes were able to grow bigger? A hunter-gatherer tribe could be size-limited according to the available resources. Likely 2 neighbouring tribes would therefore be roughly the same size. Which would make it hard for a tribe to fully exterminate other tribes. Would you send all your fighters to take on another tribe, with the risk of none of them coming back, leaving you defenseless? What if a dangerous animal walks into camp while all fighters are away?

If a farming tribe could sustain double population, that would mean double the amount of fighters, thus it would reduce the risk greatly of sending out a large group of fighters.

> completely true. No society is innocent of this.

Perhaps in history. But we humans have the ability to think and adjust our behavior. We didn't kill all the horse-people when we invented the car. It's likely that in the future we could be able to move past all the horrible things we do to each other.

The story does seem suspicious to me. He said he encountered 98% packet loss when pinging websites, but that means he has sent at least 50 pings. Default ping only does 5. Even if you increase the count, after 20 lost packages wouldn't you have decided the connection isn't up?

Also this story is about problems with the connection of their house, not the wi-fi. I find it hard to believe that a networking engineer and his son that's also an engineer use the incorrect term?

And this amorphous group of people you call 'normies' doesn't include you right? It's only those other people that are like that. Normal people like us want thing to be logical and for a search engine to search, while those other people want all their problems magically solved by a single search on google. Stupid normies (not me though).

> 4. There is, of course, the alternative that leaders are the real bottlenecks. But that can't be right...

Sshh, don't say that part to loud, especially on HN.

> I’m curious what your take is.

I'm not OP but that seems like a very respectable diagnostic track. No test is 100% reliable, so you'd want multiple tests. Even then the results can realistically only be interpreted by a psychologist that is familiar with your situation (hence the clinical interview). So this seems perfectly proper.

> Also the stimulant medication didn’t magically fix everything

Sadly there is no medication that fixes adhd. The only thing these medication does is make it easier to deal with by alleviating (some of) the symptoms. Personally I've noticed from my medication (methylphenidate) that it make it easier to stay focused on whatever task I'm doing, but if that happens to be scrolling reddit, I can still waste hours, perhaps even more since I would have otherwise distracted myself from reddit long before. So it's not perfect, but it does enable me to concentrate 8h+ at work, and that's ultimately the main benefit it brings me.

I think you're being revisionist. It's not about the people in power, it was about the media. They controlled the narrative, and they were the ones that convinced everyone of illegal bendy bananas.

> The very pro-EU faction at the head of the Tory government.

When has any tory ever been pro-eu? i think you're misremembering how things went down.

> Humans making shitty pizza is not a news.

If humans were making shitty pizza on average, these companies wouldn't be pouring in their dollars trying to imitate it.

>I've had my fair share of shitty human made pizza so this kind of sounds like the autonomous taxi news cycle to me

I think you need to check the definition of 'news'. Something that happens everyday isn't 'news'.

Although I appreciate the article, what's the deal with calling depth thickness? Is it because it looks like the meme word 'thicc'?

> If you allow for the existence of secret treasures that can only be accessed with effort and analysis, then you empower the elitists and the snobs. “Buddy, don’t even talk to me until you’ve been in the cave!”

I don't agree with this statement. Being a snob and/or elitist means looking down upon others. If you appreciate these 'secret treasures' without being a dick about it, everybody wins.
