this. and note that while it is likely true that bots were driving awareness of the anti-flock campaign, that does not mean that the anti-flock campaign is wrong - in his cognitive dissonance, he is affirming the consequent.

I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords...

...could they be worse than our current leaders?

An AI-assisted invention that solves climate change would pay some pretty good dividends, i think.

> LLMs do not desire

Isn't that what the goal is, though? we're coding them to close the delta between what currently exists and some nebulous end-state - to me, that sounds like a formal definition of 'desire'.

heh... the Ballmer Peak is still going strong, even with AI.

> but the safety of driving cars is far worse than that and most of us do that daily.

this "whattabout"ism is brought up during every safety discussion. can we please accept that 1/ everyone knows about the car issue, and 2/ the car issue being a problem does not mean we should stop talking about other issues that exist.

on a similar note... what statistics show the accident rate of each model of car? or rather, a single driver's accident rate in various types of cars?

a high rate of mutations would be an advantage in a new environment, though.

in the 1800's, were the vast majority of horses produced through state owned companies? that process was upended by human ingenuity.

begging governments to solve the problem has obviously failed; focusing our efforts on fostering ideas and inventions is our best hope at getting our of this mess.

from OP:

>setting off commercial grade fireworks bursting hundreds of feet in the air. The house was shaking,

I'm in Bellevue, WA, and experienced house-shaking fireworks for the first time this year. I was inside with my cats - theyve always been more or less fine with fireworks, just hiding under the bed - but this year's house shakers were on another level. When the first one went off, I thought an accident had happened and a cache of fireworks had exploded. Scared the hell outta me. Then there were about 5 more like that spread across the next 5 hours. 0% of pets would be ok with these ones, I guarantee it. Idk if theyre new this year or what but Ill be doing the same as OP next year.
