I own a GPD max 2 and a GPD win mini and both are really not suitable for my workflow: the battery life is not as good as an iPhone and the fan keep screaming. Maybe I should try installing linux on them. Now they are just gaming devices and a backup machine in case I really need to open office documents.

OTOH I have used my iPhone pro max for development for a long long time. The trick is to use a always-on linux VPS pairing with many excellent terminal emulators on iPhone (e.g. blink.sh).

Essentially I'm using iPhone as a thin client to visit a true linux development machine, and both of them play their roles perfectly. While other solutions while trying to be both roles with a single device failed miserably.

I wonder if this is censored. If not then users in China mainland can use the api to workaround gfw (though there are much better ways)

Unlike 30 years ago, now I see anti-developer as a feature for end users. The current trend is that big corporation developers just abuse any system to squeeze profits/information from end users as much as possible.

In this case apple do this because Meta are abusing.

What I linked is the official repo. My customization is private because I replace the original fonts with a commercial font (which I own a license) so I feel it's better not to make the repo public.

I don't have video on my hand but a photo is here: https://files.catbox.moe/z8suof.jpg

There are some cons:

- some users report text gets blurred out if used under direct sunlight for a long time. I don't use it outside so I'm not affected

- sometimes the BLE connection is sketchy. I'm not sure if it's hardware or software problem

- the editor features are very barebone so you may want to customize your own version

- beware there are unflashable edition of this device
