Whatever happened to NIST? Didn't they get their funding axed or something?

From the article:

> “A lot of the people who come into this money are flashy, and they’re signaling that they have wealth,” he previously told The Post.

As long as you don't brag about it, I don't really see this being a real world issue. I think credit card fraud is a lot more likely.

> I think a better question to ask, whatever someone's background, is "do you want to know the truth, even if it turns out you don't believe it now, and are you willing to follow it no matter what the cost?"

I don't understand. Is it a rhetorical statement from your part?

How can you know that what you are being told is the truth? If it can be proven, then there is no need to be told or to doubt it. If it can't be proven (or at least observed), then by definition, it is a belief, not a truth.

Also why would you agree to learn the truth if you're not going to believe it?

To me that cringiness is oh so wonderful. Everyone is so weirdly afraid of their image, of how others think of them.

We've become sterile; caricatures of ourselves so that we can adhere to the groupthink. It's refreshing to see people unashamed to be themselves, with all of their weird parts.

How would foreclosing make the housing crisis worse? Wouldn't another family purchase the home thus creating a net zero?

> None of the comments so far are engaging with the OP, whose written testimony was included in the article:

Because of the extremely inflammatory title, perhaps? Replace "Gen Z" with a skin color or a religion and you'd get instantly banned from hacker news.

Also, from the article, it seems to directly contradict your comment:

> This conversation feels uncomfortable because it doesn’t offer villains or easy fixes. Horvath summed it up bluntly during his testimony. “A sad fact our generation has to face is this: Our kids are less cognitively capable than we were at their age.” His recommendation focused on restraint, dialing back screens in schools, and restoring depth before the next generation is doomed.

> 1) By default, every word (each character, actually) you input into Spotlight/Siri gets time-stamped and sent to `smoot.apple.com`

Huh? How do you expect Apple to show live search results if they don't send what you're typing to their servers?

> 2) Even with a Pi-Hole blocking *.apple.com (i.e. using MacOS >> Networking >> DNS Server), on boot all modern Apple Silicon reaches out to security.apple.com (i.e. bypassing the user's manual-input DNS setting), using the DHCP-issued DNS IP [0]

From a quick google search, it seems to be if you enable "Find my" or pass word recovery with an Apple account. I think that's reasonable to expect if you enable these features.

From what I've heard though, Mail has pretty horrible searching in Apple land. Just for that, it may be worth it to look at alternatives.

> In other words, if X has a public API and Nitter is using it, then neither Nitter themselves nor the Nitter users have to agree to any terms of service in order to do so.

That's not true. Publicly available source code with licenses dispute your claim.
