Ok. People were renting DVDs in 1998.

I always think of it as the place best known for achieving extremely low birth rates ahead of almost everywhere else.

TFR of 1.21 is still a death spiral, even if other countries in Asia have caught up and surpassed Japan in terms of demographic collapse.

It’s also lower than most every western hemisphere.

> I’ve never done anything out of the norm or unwanted to woman, let alone abuse one

Yeah the Dworkin contention that porn turns men into rapists has basically been disproven.

But there’s no reason to say “warps the minds of men” has to lean in that direction. Reading forums of young men who have porn addictions and grew up with HD hardcore porn it seems more like the opposite happened, they become more withdrawn, less likely to engage with women enough to develop social skills, less able to perform sexually irl and subject to porn-induced erectile dysfunction. When it was just magazines and socially stigmatized VHS rentals it was unheard of for college aged men to take viagra, now it’s widespread. Arguably warped minds led to this.

Movable type was the most popular blogging software in 2003 and it was essentially this. An admin app written in Perl that spit out static files.

It is kind of surprising that no one tried to do an updated version.

The headline is:

“AI Safety Donors Paid Religious NGOs $3.3M for Statements on AI”

The headline above states:

“Anthropic & friends…”

It’s at best a misleading change, though the article merits discussion.

Bluetooth is actually only used to establish proximity. Both your phone and the browser connect to an internet relay, which lets the phone essentially pretend to be a USB security key connected to the computer.

I recently switched from Safari to Zen and the Firefox extension for Apple passwords works well. You have to enter a pushed 6 digit code when you first start the browser, but it’s relatively painless.

Zen is genuinely so nice. I have been a Safari die hard because for so long it’s been remarkable at resource efficiency. After switching my macOS window management to aerospace, Zen finally got me to switch away. And it’s great that it loads all the Firefox extensions.

I guess this is just what selection pressure looks like. It’s possible that adults who struggle to navigate social media and agitprop to the extent that they can’t imagine being able to raise kids in the 21st century might actually be right that their offspring would also struggle.

It’s a free country. This sort of boycott would just result in Black Rifle Pizza.

The number one reason I wear an Apple Watch all summer is the UV index complication. If the number is at 4 and trending down I let the kids run free.

I just listened to an interview with Carl Trueman about his new book which criticizes transhumanism.

Also check Reduce Motion and the whole OS will feel more stable even if it’s only an illusion.

It makes sense when you realize that the US has a similar scope and a larger number of states in it than Europe did at the time.

Analogies between the United States and specific states in Europe often done work as well as US <-> Europe do.
