>I'm quite influenced by Ed Zitron's reporting. And I'm also standing by my own idea that AI will run out of money and just be turned off due to the huge operational cost.

I wish this were how things are going but Uber is still surviving. I figure at least one AI company is going to come out of this alive and kicking.

You all are beating around the bush. Some people like anime girl personas better than 3d girls. It is somewhat similar to the whole furry thing on a few levels. This creates the demand for services/content which we are now discussing. /thread

This is a 'classic' and I don't know why this isn't higher up the list. I actually opened the comments just to post it if no one already had.

I dunno, I've mostly lived in urban areas but I've always had record shops near to where I live. Sure, there are far less than there used to be, but the ones that made the cut appear to be on solid footing.

Gibson's fiction created an aesthetic and I am pretty sure more people are now aware of the aesthetic than the fiction with gave rise to it.

You are right. Basic economic theory says nothing about distribution of value, only about creation of the most value. I don't know why your comment is grey.

But... perhaps these guys are playing a longer game? Reputation has value as well and from other comments this move seems to boost reputation significantly.

>Exaggerating a bit, I felt like my old self was dead and I just happened to somehow have inherited his memories.

I had a small mental breakdown anticipating that this was going to happen while my wife was pregnant with our first. It didn't. I ended up replacing the part of my life that was video escapism with kids and kept everything else the same. Three kids in, things are going great.

>I get almost physically ill when I hear about kids getting harmed.

Replace ill with enraged and I have had the same experience. The strong emotions were a bit of a surprise.

This doesn't make sense to me. Are you suggesting we reject the labels 'conservative' and 'liberal' due to their limited usefulness in describing reality and high potential to evoke emotional response?

I wouldn't disagree with that, but the author in question doesn't seem to follow that line of thinking so it seems irrelevant here.

This writer appears to overcomplicates conservative vs. liberal. Conservatives care about those closest to them and generally dislike disruptive change. Liberals care about those far away and embrace disruptive change for the sake of those others.

I think the was already understood. Anyone remember the 'companion' in the show Firefly?

This article doesn't make sense to me. The terminals are the *nix accessibility stack for all practical purposes and agents can use this interface just fine. What am I missing?

>Yeah and we'd be better off. The modern world is quantifiably worse than the world we had even 10 years ago. That includes everything in software development and computer science.

Rather than killing this comment, how about we discuss quantification? I actually feel this way too but do not talk about it too much and sort of boil it down to a combination of advancing in age + yelling at clouds and "Stop putting computers in all my stuff!".

Can we reliably quantify that "weaponized autism", i.e. the aggressive monetization of nerds by capital to squeeze profit out of every possible corner of society (as I interpret it in a broad sense), is making things worse. Is it damaging the economy for most people? Making people less happy? Decreasing net social mobility or discrimination? Lowering life expectancy?

Does anyone know of a non-slop summary of the same material? Despite the AI diagrams and symbols, the material is more than directionally accurate.
