Bigger question is does Linux need another distro at all?! I would say about as badly as Singapore needs a mall.

There's no doubting the brilliance of DHH and folks working on it. What if that went to into making a better UI, Desktop like Mac. After all Apple did that so well when they moved to Unix core.

Has always been a political project only the politics changed.

API access etc are business issues. Can't mix them up.

Yeah mine is Debian + xfce although my laptop is fairly powerful 32Gb gen 12 Intel. It's fast, light and pleasure to use. Apt any day over all those fancy flat pack etc

Actually between us and X is not logged in but Xcancel itself I believe logs in. So it's not a login issue..

I wanted to learn the underlying principles of LLM/AI and got myself Shilov's book. Wow that was so thick, each paragraph took a while to figure. This could be a nice option..

Thanks!

I think a lot of early scientists and inventors got embroiled in patent disputes and lawsuits etc. In UK, mainland Europe too. Say what you might, money is a big motivator and that is what kept US going. Altruism is all fine for occasional gestures like not patenting some medicine or stuff like that but sustained innovation is basically a profit chasing exercise. And patents are its biggest enabler.

Anyway my comment was in the context of speed of innovation. Humanity that struggled to get a cycle going for 50 years managed to fly in the next 10 years and within the next 50, intercontinental regular passenger flights were common!

Can some of these optimization get back propagated to Postgres?

Seems you need to buy a phone from them to use it? Couldn't find list of hardware supported, how to install etc.

Incredible to think that barely ten years after bicycles were somewhat perfected as useful, Wright brothers started testing their early plane designs.

Thanks..non AI expert here just wanted to understand..cos one of the most talked about topics is running models locally on cheaper hardware. Helps many esp in poorer places.

Would be nice if a genuinely useful coding model can fit into an old laptop, give decent performance and know nothing but (say) Go or c language.

But I see yours + others points.

Can a model be stripped off anything not relevant to coding and get a lot lighter? Or is that impossible?

Just like we have professors with specialisation wondering if AI models can also be so.

Where will this leave the c based driver which I believe is the basis for many others?

Lost count of number of times I read this or similar:

For me it’s the first local model that actually makes sense as a general intelligence.
