Still here.

Always loved this tidbit of history. As a kid who was obsessed with WWII, I would hunt for them in old photos and videos.

> Taiwan has 20 million people. Mainland china has 1.4 billion people. I believe the "self-determination" part is already settled.

What does population have to do with self determination?

> Nope. Let them settle it. We shouldn't have been involved in the first place.

Except they were allied with the US and deals were drawn up that should be honored.

> Are you serious? One is the second largest economy in the world. The other is taiwan.

He said in a strategic industry, which semiconductors are.

If there is TSMC spam it's probably because this is a tech forum and they is a lot of movement in the field in the last year, mostly related to the failings of Intel and the rise of TSMC.

Yes and no. This is changing as people become more prosperous and can afford old age homes. Multi-generational homes are still common, but less so than they were a decade or two decades ago.

The primary issue these days with grandparents taking care of kids is that for many people the jobs are no longer nearby, but in neighboring provinces. Parents leave for years at a time, only returning during the Fall and Chinese New Year breaks. It puts a lot of pressure on the older folks.

In my mind China will be resilient less so because of how families work, and more because of the investments they're making with regard to automation and an expansion of social welfare policies.

How are cryptocurrencies any worse or more shady than banks, investment firms or any other business involved in finance?

As someone who tried react + redux and then recently moved to svelte because the way things were done just made sense, how does mobx compare?

The introductory video were linked to the curriculum the department was following and so I put things in the same order to match what was being done. When I normally teach it I skip to the hello world portions first and then later come back to those first 3-4 videos.

The programming videos themselves go, in my opinion, quite slowly, which I found helped many kids.

Below is a 51 video tutorial series on Python that I made for my students about 4-5 years ago. It was a flipped classroom thing I did and I took it really slow in discussing the concepts.

I've been teaching coding in middle and high school for awhile now, and the things that seem to pop up again and again which most online tutorials skim over is vast. People need to stop designing materials for kids that are just more colorful copies of what adults materials. It ends up turning off a lot of kids that aren't able to grok it right away.

I teach the IB and IGCSE curricula and have used repl.it quite a bit in the last few years. What sort of materials are you looking for? Coverage of Python, Java, and C++ at the middle/high school level or smaller one-off projects with libraries like Pygame and Flask?

Wechat is in no way a competitor to Messenger or WhatsApp.

Have you tried questioning this? Do you really enjoy those things to the exclusion of other activities? I've found that while I think I enjoy them, they leave me feeling unsatisfied when I've stopped. Yet the things I enjoy which take more effort provide a higher quality enjoyment that persists after its done.

I don't think of a leather bound guy being pulled out of a trunk when people say those names.

Hard to determine if a certain practice is harmless or not.
