A lot of people seem to pay oddly high sums for the limited amount of remaining high-quality ones, if they’re so bad…

> ”If some idiot roots their phone and downloads malware, the bank may be responsible for refunding them.”

This obviously depends on jurisdiction, but how commonly is this actually the case?

I’ve thankfully never personally been on the receiving end of fraud or identity theft, but my impression is that here, everything that happens up until the point you tell your bank ”hey, uh, I think my account’s been compromised” is pretty much on you. I don’t think rooting your phone, installing a banking app from some umauthorized source et.c would be hard to construe as negligence.

What do you think the reaction of voters ought to be?

It’s cool that the ArVid system has been ”rediscovered” in recent years. It seemed to be completely lost and forgotten about for a long time, despite my clear memories of seeing an ad for a system for VHS backups in a magazine in the late 90s.

Our computer had an 850MB hard drive at the time, 2GB of storage on a single tape was enormous and it really stuck in my mind.

Good thing we have open source models from China, famous for ignoring copyright...

Hadn't heard about that before. Argonaut and Nintendo also co-developed a 3D game called "X" on the Game Boy, that might give us an idea of how it could've looked.

Exactly. The code, whatever, it's for machines so I don't really care if it's by machines as long as it works. But if you can't even be bothered to think about the human-facing parts of your thing like docs and UX, I'm not really interested. It just feels cheap (in the bad sense) and offputting.

> That choice showed such a baffling level of cluelessness. Like here's this guy, this supposed visionary, who has carte blanche to do whatever he wants (with what is supposedly his own story, no less) and he just.. doesn't really seem to get it?

> It really made me question whether the OT were as a good as they were because of him or in spite of him.

He didn’t get it with the original trilogy either, but had Marsha Lucas to tell him no and patiently explain how normal people work. For the prequels he was surrounded by yes-men.

Anecdotally (I did try it myself, but wasn’t blown away) many seem to like it for 3D modelling. That was emphasized in the promo too. I think this kind of ”general intelligence” is what is meant to set it apart from 5.6.

Get a significant fraction of the global economy and assorted geopolitical neuroses tangled up within your cannon and see if you won’t have better luck.
