Well, it does technically in that to "run TypeScript" all you have to do is strip the types, and execute the remaining JavaScript. This is what Node does, but it doesn't do any typechecking. You can always include TypeScript as a dependency to do the actual type checking for you.

Deno from my understanding included a version of the TypeScript compiler as part of its build. Node doesn't do this. I'm not sure what Bun does, but I wouldn't trust it for anything more than a hobby project.

I'm not the person you're responding too, but the negatives of recommendation algorithms on major social media platforms are well understood and documented in the media these days. I think this has urged a lot of people to reject them wholesale and find alternative ways to consume content (myself included; I only use YouTube RSS feeds to watch videos these days). Some downsides to recc algos include: monopolizing your attention for profit via ad revenue, incentivising addictive or compulsive behavior, subtle (or not so subtle) political radicalization or echo chambers, among other stuff.

If you don't find any of the above to be a problem, you don't have anything to worry about, of course.

It sounds like you're not a tinkerer in the sense that the parent post used the word.

I agree generally. At least, I have a better time using LLMs when I treat them like StackOverflow or Google, where I'll ask a question non-specific to my code, and figure out how to fit the answer into my project. When I give them access to a codebase, cognitive debt is incurred far too quickly. I know people online will say I'm just not using it "right" -- I do not really believe them.

This looks cool, but standalone usage doesn't seem to be documented anywhere. The README for the above package says "For full exposed APIs, see src/index.ts."

So while Vue is not gatekeeping their reactive primitive library, they aren't exactly advertising it like Preact in a way that the average library author (like Mador's author) might even be aware of it.

Also as someone who has built React applications for more than 7+ years, I'm also still not sure what React's reactive primitive package is. Googling or asking ChatGPT has turned up nothing.

Fair, although I'm aware of preact/signals-core, what are React/Vue's standalone reactive libraries?

It's not that weird of a presentation, just different ergonomics for the same problem.

preact/signals-core is great, but since HTML elements have no way to subscribe to signals, you have to handle that yourself:

  import { signal, effect } from "@preact/signals-core";

  const $ = (s) => document.querySelector(s);

  const counter = signal(0);

  effect(() => {
    $('.counter').textContent = counter.value;
  });

  $('.increment').addEventListener('click', () => {
    counter.value += 1;
  });

  vs mador:

  import mador from "https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/npm/@marsbos/mador@latest/dist/mador.js";

  const $ = (s) => document.querySelector(s);

  const [read, write] = mador({
    count: 0,
  });

  read(".counter", (el, count) => {
    el.textContent = count;
  },
    (state) => state.count,
  );

  $('.increment').addEventListener('click', () => {
    write((state) => { state.count++; });
  });
Anyways, I love projects like these that try to make working with the web easier with minimal tools.

Because important information or information I care about is at times exclusively posted on Twitter, like news from my local municipality. I am not a Twitter/X user, so having Nitter as an option is important to me.

I replaced Dropbox and other cloud storage providers with Syncthing on all of my machines. It's not the equivalent, but I was surprised by how little I missed the cloud storage itself -- in the end, I just needed a way to have my files synced between devices automatically.

Are you referring to my comment here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49454431? Can you explain how I'm promoting communist symbolism or crucifying innocent folks for "swastika art"? What part or what did I suggest was not truthful?

Is there an official Bluesky or Mastodon? Especially after the Nitter cease-and-desist, I have run out of patience for Musk's propaganda machine.

I don't think they have to worry about that since they are self-hosting.

> when's the last time you've seen a coworker brag about using vim

Are you suggesting these people have increased or decreased in quantity? I feel like I've met more vim/neovim/tmux/theprimagen/tool-rewritten-in-rust geeks with every new job.
