Snout https://snout.com/ | Multiple Engineering + Product Roles | Remote US or Ontario, Canada | Full Time

Join us at Snout on our mission to ensure no one ever has to make a health decision for their pet based on the cash in their bank account. Snout plans pay for 100% of routine veterinary care, unlimited visits, and additional member benefits - think pet insurance, that you will actually use every year.

We're growing the team and hiring across the board. Featured role this month:

Founding Data Engineer - be our first data hire: make sense of hundreds of millions of rows from vet practice-management systems and our own app, and turn our Postgres and dbt warehouse into a foundation the whole company trusts.

Our tech stack includes Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, AWS, Tailwind, and Python. We use both JavaScript and TypeScript heavily. Our team uses LLM-based tooling day to day, but we're fundamentally a human-centric team, and our product itself does not heavily feature AI components.

Frontend Engineer - Spend ~80% of your time building the React/Tailwind experience clinics and pet owners rely on, and ~20% in the Node/PostgreSQL backend behind it.

Backend Engineer - Spend ~80% of your time on the services, data systems, and payments infrastructure behind our wellness plans, and ~20% in the React frontend.

Data Engineer - Own how data moves through Snout: pipelines, ETL, and integrations, including getting data out of the on-prem software clinics already run.

Platform Engineer (cloud operations, developer experience, security) - Own our AWS environment, CI/CD pipelines, developer experience, and platform security - the foundation the whole team ships on.

Product Manager - Own discovery-to-delivery for our wellness platform, working shoulder to shoulder with engineering and the rest of the business.

QA Engineer - Own quality across the platform: test strategy, automation, and the release confidence that lets a small team ship fast.

Applied AI Engineer - Put LLMs to work across the product and the business, from customer-facing features to internal tooling.

Across all roles we're looking for at least three years of relevant experience, and we're hiring senior and staff level engineers as well.

My primary plan is the $200 Claude max. They only operate during my working hours and there is significant downtime as they deliver results and await my review.

Not trying to tell anyone else how to live, just want to make sure the other side of this argument is visible. I run 5+ agents all day every day. I measure, test, and validate outputs exhaustively. I value the decrease in noise in output here because I am very much not looking to micromanage process because I am simply too slow to keep up. When I want logging I can follow to understand “thought process” I ask for that in a specific format in my prompt something like “talk through the problem and your exploration of the data step by step as you go before you make any changes or do any work and use that plan as the basis of your actions”.

I still think it’d be nice to allow an output mode for you folks who are married to the previous approach since it clearly means a lot to you.
