I've got to give credit where it is due... It really feels like Laravel Cloud picked up where Heroku left off. Or at least is trying to.

Kamal is somewhere in the middle. Probably a little closer to a bunch of bash scripts. But it’ll get your container going pretty quick. Can take a bit of fiddling with SSH/docker-login. Plus it handles deployments very well.

We built https://www.beanstalk.club/ just for this!!! Our kids organize play dates on their own now. They can collaborate on video games with their friends.

Agree. I think that's what "Owner Operated" used to mean. Would be interesting to have a certification for these businesses. I've also started collecting related links:

Setup my self-hosted Forgejo last night. Very pleased so far.

I love that you mention 'extreme care'. I was enthralled with this look inside a plant and the operations involved. Truly a sight to behold. And extreme care is not an overstatement.

Seems like there are a bunch of alternatives popping up including some DIY solutions. Which is really awesome in this space. Check out https://www.beanstalk.club/ I've done some work with these folks. I love their bring-your-own-phone approach. There are so many cool old-school phones out there, even on ebay. We've also seen lots of success with Beanstalk and a simple $20 cordless phone. Kids love wandering around chit-chatting. There's also a ton of momentum around the https://www.waituntil8th.org/ pledge.

Agree. One of my favorite tropes to product and leadership is that “performance is a feature”.

I like this a lot. I am looking forward to having something similar built into Metabase.

I'm working on a small project to bring plain-old-telephones back into our children's lives. Quick, screen-less connections with grandparents, cousins, and friends is as quick as picking up the phone and pressing one button. Imagine that.

In a similar vein. I have been following a creator doing some very cool things with 3d printed rc construction equipment.

Firefox has this built in. That’s how I do it.
