It's truly a bizarre piece. It reads like a pitch for EVs to self-described "men of the west."

Having no regard for the quality of the end user experience opens up a lot of business possibilities, LLM's or not.

Any chance you'll be open-sourcing any part of the underlying model hierarchy? A lot of us could really use a good library for deriving knowledge graphs or expert systems with cool features (such as expiration dates, like your solution has, or weighted probabilities) rather than everyone re-inventing it on their own.

If I'm happy with how it's working, an update can only break things.

I thought it was going to be "due to recent market volatility".

> Their runway is much shorter than you would imagine.

If they don't make it, there will be plenty of time to mine through their dataset for business ideas to sell to other people as they liquidate. Think of the Spirit Airlines dataset that was just sold.

> This robot looks a lot more "unnatural" compared to the Chinese robots currently being used in everything from gymnastics to fighting matches.

Yes, because as the author says, they actually had to try to make a humanoid that can do something useful, whereas the Chinese humanoids are simply demo-fodder for the uninitiated.

> Also, I wonder if (as in the case of XGO) it isn't easier to just automate the moving of crates onto the conveyor belt instead of using a robot picking them up and hauling them there.

It is, and there are many other better solutions as well, but it doesn't attract the notoriety that humanoids do.

Since there's enough comments here rightly questioning this finding, I'll entertain the claim at face value.

Supposing it's true, is it the result of malice or chauvinism?

Don't worry, you'll be making hardware pedals with webassembly and remote attestation soon enough, and we'll be back to the status quo.

> It's much more comforting

This kind of psychologizing can be used to subjectively argue either case.

For example, I could say that it's much more comforting to think that current circumstances are artifacts of greedy fools rather than coordination by malevolent and powerful actors.

> that the "top level" had a plan here

You're also being somewhat reductive here. Sure, entry-level conspiracies rely on an all-powerful council with top-down authority, but there are more nuanced understandings where they can arrive out of alliances of convenience between rival factions.

And every time you point it out, some useful idiot will say "you're making the slippery slope fallacy."

No. If you bought Cisco it never recovered, once you factor in inflation. Almost the same with Intel.

Watch what they do and not what they say.

> Right now most businesses hang up on them - and the businesses which answer will be the ones getting the bookings.

They probably have enough bookings without having to submit to robodialing. The best businesses typically have to turn people away.
