This is what city services are for. In most of the world you can get a public park without a weird sub-government

Are we talking about Chapterhouse or a KJA book here?

I think you read a lot of books that are post-2000. IMO the original 4 or 5 books imply strongly that it’s man v man, not man v machine

If you make jam at home you’re going to be adding a very similar amount of sugar. Ingredient splitting may be an issue, but a sweet fruit preserve is a silly choice for showing it.

I’m just asking for equal library fees bro, not even a tax-advantaged savings program like CPF.
Comment · 1 month ago
Exactly my point, annual fees should be zero but instead certain legal residents have to pay higher ones.

In the US, annual library fees are $0, incredibly.

Maybe I shouldn’t complain, they also seem to think $35 is a reasonable price for a mass-market paperback here.

A lot of those people are permanent residents.

They also charge a pretty hefty membership fee if you’re not at least a PR, and charge for physical book reservations. It was pretty shocking for me after the California library system.

And I’m a taxpayer. Net, I pay more taxes than a citizen with the same income.

Besides CI, what benefits were you getting from writing the logic as a stored procedure?
Comment · 1 month ago
Maybe they’re not properly called sprocs, but there’s at least one good use for logic stored in the database: data retention. I like CREATE EVENT / pg_cron for trimming append-only tables when the data has aged out.

The second paragraph doesn’t follow from my question, because it assumes JPEG XL does become useful on the web. The author believes AVIF is too far ahead already.

If my mom had wheels she’d be a bicycle. The thread started with an offhand mention of an extension that doesn’t address the issue raised in the post and is in fact currently defeated by link redirects entirely.

We’ve had redirecting trackers like bit.ly for over a decade and the extension didn’t address it then.

If JPEG XL doesn’t become useful on the web, is it really likely to become popular with camera manufacturers, professional image editing tools, etc?

What does it offer there that existing workflows can’t support? Do those advantages make up for the transcoding that every web publisher would need to do to make the outputs useful on the web?
