What a boring looking device. It looks like it could have been made by HP or Microsoft. What has happened to Apple?

It works great as a solo developer. I've been doing the same thing for the past several months. I couldn't imagine doing it with a team.

I was born in 1979. We have always been at odds with Iran and have had a few skirmishes, but this notion that we have been at war with them for 47 years only became a thing several months ago. There was never a time we were "at war" with them until Trump started one. You should stop consuming propaganda and learn more history.

I would sooner trust a Chinese company than an Israeli company. Is there any country less trustworthy and more hostile to users?

The reason will be that the older, less expensive Apple TV 4k will no longer be available. There's really no other reason. This is a price hike, plain and simple.

You could make the argument that we don't have Siri in the USA either. I mean, it's there, but it's not like it actually works for anything.

That's what the previous gen 4k model does. It works great.

I love my Apple TV, but this is nothing but a price hike. The older model already does 4k. What's the added benefit here? Siri? Give me a break. Apple Intelligence is the least capable AI of any of the big tech companies. The fact that they don't mine data like the others is a moot point when Siri isn't even good enough to answer basic queries in the first place. There's no data to mine when you end up not using it for anything.

Cost of services is up. I suspect that's where the token cost comes into play, but they didn't "invest" in tokens. They can't call that an investment anyway. The increase in cost of services relative to revenue impacts net income - we can see that in prior years - but that's not the whole story. Total assets on the balance sheet increased at the same time net income decreased. They spent money on something of value.

Apparently, no one commenting knows how to read financial statements. They look at one item and assume the company is going out of business. Meanwhile, their total assets have increased. Cost of services have increased significantly over recent years - mostly commensurate with revenue growth, although the gap has been shrinking. Operating costs have been pretty flat. I don't have time to investigate where they spent the money, but the company is not at risk. They brought in more money than in prior years and spent it on something. That's it.

I was wondering the same thing. Distrobox mounts $HOME by default, but it’s trivial to give a distrobox its own $HOME.

Can you explain the advantages of systemd-nspawn containers versus podman/docker? I’m not familiar with systemd-nspawn, but I’m a regular user of distrobox and podman.

Or he told the board he’s resigning and they told him it’s immediate. It’s unlikely he resigned with zero notice so he could go the Meta the very next day.

I was around in the 90's too, which is why I can confidently say it is that bad. What Apple is doing with AI today is exactly the same formula as some of the worst stuff Microsoft put out back then. I'm not talking about the big things. More like the bundled apps where they see someone else getting traction with something and then they go and bundle their own K-Mart version of it that no one asked for.

I actually like AI tools, but I don’t use Apple Intelligence. It’s literally the worst in class. It feels very late 90’s Microsoft. They are shoving it on us when we don’t want it and it’s worse than everything else out there. It’s the Windows Media Player of the AI industry.

They have their own problems. They may be "open source", but they don't accept contributions. I'm skeptical it will ever become more than a hobby project.
