2025 was all about 'Rust' on HN and 2026 is all about 'rebuilding everything in Rust'. Comical on one level and yet intriguing.

Writing databases is an EXTREMELY fun learning endeavour but it is truly difficult to do correctly.

Parity can take time - and you probably don't want it because the apps like Adobe's are full of so much legacy anyway.

It was during covid, during a time when people were starting to think retail would never go back to normal and everyone would switch to exclusively online buying.

It was a bet that was unsupported by data (there wasn't any) and turned out to be wrong.

https://andrewdremin.com/nike-dtc-strategy-failure-2026/ talks about how they changed their approach to product development to rehash old designs for a more fashion led approach.

We keep reading different variations of the same story over and over - different companies and industries but make the same fatal mistakes.

1) Let the 'spreadsheet people' take over, every decision is now allegedly based on 'data'

2) Kill the innovation because they can’t put a $ value on it

3) Rake in a few years of fast profits and soak in glory

4) Company implodes, CEO rides into the sunset, board that should have protected the company somehow largely intact.

Data wasn't the killer. Stupidity, greed and shortsightedness in roughly equal parts usually are.

The real issue here is they’ve been dishonest and less than candid with their customers.

Trust broken, words out, and their statement doesn’t really do anything to mending that.

Like bunny.net - its still tiny compared to CF but hopefully they will grow and won't adopt the crappier bits of CF.

They used to make some nice equipment but I’ve stopped buying anything from LG and share that recommendation to friends and family.

I know I’m not the only one so I’m sure LG are experiencing the results of consumer democracy.

No expert but mechanical parts all built to the same specification and used in more or less the same manner can fail around the same time.

We see that in commercial aviation a lot which is why when there’s so much as 2 instances of a similar failure within a short timespan investigators start looking more closely at maintenance and manufacturing.

What’s the best real alternative to 1Password?

I’d want: Secure with sharing capability, multi device sync and nice UX
