I had been a non-contributing reader (only short-term) on SO when I decided to write answers. The whole thing reeked of a mild version of The Lord of the Flies-esque sophomorism.

The toxicity was too much for me. On HN, when a toxic entity points their sting at me, at least their comment gets flagged within 24 hours. No such thing on SO. The moderators themselves are toxic as batshit.
