And how do we know the logs that are emitted are trustworthy?

The one raising the point. Apparently standing alone amongst otherwise bipartisan support of spying on Americans.

Should we expect logs from a compromised system to be truthful?

So, “appointment available tomorrow” makes for amazing healthcare, even if the wrong treatment is prescribed?

“Puffery” is about the article, not the work

“… no first-rate mathematician would now work any more on it, because he would not be the first one to do it.”

That’s just a lame excuse. Once anyone does it first, no one else can. Perhaps we should ban publication, everyone can be first!

This problem started before AI hit the mainstream. Make the company “more efficient” (i.e. cut costs) by outsourcing to contractors in areas with lower labor costs. Then, remove escalation paths, then remove abilities from them so that can’t do crazy things like refund a customer. Finally, automate the whole thing and be certain there’s no option available that could possibly return money to the customer.

You're right. But in my anecdotal experience, there are about half as many adding the surcharge as providing the discount.

Ultimately, my point is (not even addressing the legality of Visa's compulsory pricing attempts) the cost of upfront analysis to set pricing appropriately is easily dwarfed by the cost of labor and throughput when adjusting the price by employees at the point of sale. Maybe the merchants adjusting at sale are getting a benefit in the form of customer awareness, but I have doubts.
