Is becoming a public company going to help or harm their mission of delivering safe AI?

"Fault" has nothing to do with it. A mouse killed in a trap isn't "at fault" for being in my house when I don't want it to be there

I experienced almost the opposite once.

We had a window with a mirrored film to reduce the amount of sun into its room and the neighborhood crows were obsessed with it. They would fly into it, sit right outside the window and chatter loudly, and peck at the window.

Unfortunately this window was on my infant's nursery and the crow noises would constantly wake her up during nap time. My wife asked me to help and I tried a scarecrow, I tried shooing them away right after they woke up the baby, but neither helped. I finally took a pellet gun and shot one of them after another baby-waking incident. All the crows flew away and screeched angrily at me for ~5 minutes before leaving. I never saw them again.

What is the purpose of this article besides "we can use ludicrous numbers of tokens to reinvent any software we want, and no we're not sharing the code"?

It's complicated, but one of the ways they first cooperated was to break the flag generation algorithm.

I'm sort of winging this, but the ExploitGym challenges involve exploiting a program then getting an HMAC generated "flag" which the scorer can verify. The agents collaborated on a way to produce a legitimate flag for all of their tasks (funny enough this was actually what caused them to escape sandbox, the agents were incorrectly convinced that simply providing a correct flag without accurate steps to exploit the program in their transcripts would cause them to still fail the task)

Has this been verified by the Clay Institute?

I don't think it's all that exciting. The hybrid BSD/mach personalities is somewhat interesting, as are some of the available mach machineries.

It's been a stable foundation for several of the most successful operating systems in history though

Does this company's charter not have language about shutting down the company if it was in humanity's best interest? This is insanely dangerous

Why did Scott Alexander (one of the authors of the original AI 2027 paper) not join/contribute to this one?

For those curious, this is a report about firings from the last year. Not a new round of layoffs:

> Oracle shed about 21,000 roles globally in the last year as the US technology giant reshapes its business around artificial intelligence (AI), the firm's latest annual report shows.

"The Bell curve is a fact of life. The blacks on average score 85 per cent on IQ and it is accurate, nothing to do with culture. The whites score on average 100. The Orientals score higher"

"These are realities that, if you do not accept, will lead to frustration because you will be spending money on wrong assumptions and the results cannot follow. If I tell Singaporeans – we are all equal regardless of race, language, religion, culture, then they will say, 'Look, I'm doing poorly. You are responsible.' But I can show that from British times, certain groups have always done poorly, in mathematics and in science."

"If you don't reproduce yourself, what happens? Next generation you will have a less capable generation to run the country... We must go closer to the evidence of the experts, which shows that about 80 per cent of a person's makeup is nature, inherited, and only 20 per cent nurture, environment and training."
