In your heart you know that's not a real contribution.

I recently realised that since giving up TV back in 2003, YouTube kind of became my TV.

I still watch YT Shorts about series and news. That is pretty much TV.

Disney is primed up for some regulatory action and customer punishment.

Enough cancellations will trigger price raises to protect their quarter reports until the whole revenue model collapses, and they price themselves out of the streaming subscription business.

I am not an MBA, but it made sense to me.

It's being a great season, techsecurity-wise.

It's regular air. It doesn't need any special propellant.

I share the same sentiment. I de-Googled myself except for YouTube, but still wouldn't want my Gmail banned.

That's why I've gone to using open models, they are getting there slowly. A bit much of hand-holding but that's fine by me. If a customer of mine decides to use Google's models, I will have them sign a disclaimer that I'm not responsible of them getting insta-banned or similar. I just can't recommend it.

Also because they are Google. Google being Google: unreliable (they could kill a product anytime), too much of a platform risk (all products in a single place, get banned and lose the company), lack of support unless you really pay a big bill (into the 7 figures), among other… things.

With CDNs of today, they are not so much relevant for the clearnet.

Yeah, I'd rather revamp a Steam machine, for which we know exact specs even pre-launch.

> - Gmail - same

Gmail is not particularly difficult in terms of software engineering. The moat with email servers is IP address reputation.

I could, today, install Postfix SMTP and some IMAP as well, and watch my email all go to spam directly, if delivered at all (ISP might block them).

I'm not being sarcastic. To me, it's a classic signal for the start of the enshittification. These design decision will come top-down from Microsoft.

I am losing karma because of my opinion, but that doesn't make it any less true. After all, you can just observe how the feedback goes against border radius. Hardly it will change back now to edgy corners like it's supposed to be.

This feels like the effective death of VSCode.
