Look into the evolution of pigeon dialects into actual languages if your interested in this topic.

A bunch of workers from various countries are thrown together on a ship or some other international workplace and they develop a pigeon dialect of all their different predominate languages mashed together.

That pigeon develops and gets used for workplace needs but then these workers have families and their kids pick up that same pigeon language to talk with their friends except they need to talk about everything not just workplace stuff so they develop and advance the pigeon language and it goes from a basic rudimentary language into a full featured and complex language in a single generation even with just a few hundred speakers.

Honestly as someone with faily little experience in pentesting or photoshop but who has dabbled in both back in highschool. I think they would both take a similar amount of practice and skill to develop those abilities. They are complete opposites so i suspect the kind of person who is naturally good at photoshop to be bad at pentesting and vis versa. But if your going to dedicate a few hours of every day to learning a skill i dont think it matters which one you choose, a bit of time, practice, and natural interest and you will be able to do the kind of work that people ask these llms to do.

The major difference being that it usually takes longer to study code because projects can be massive but at the same time the llms are looking for everything and anything while a real attacker is usually looking for specific vulnerabilities in common libraries and such so i wouldnt exactly call the amateur hacker on par with an llm but i would say they could do a similar amount of damage without llm assistance. And photoshop is basically the same. Spend a few hours every day dedicated to one thing and you will learn how to do it.

Did you read the post you replied to?

Are you just being pedantic about the definition of monopoly or did you fail to understand the problem as it was explained.

Do you use ios? If so do you like using broken websites? Do you have no desire for things to function as intended?

Id imagine its very annoying as a developer to have your things broken for no reason other than pure corporate greed.

If you do use ios then you probably enjoy paying more for an inferior product so ig this is more of a feature than a bug.

The right to protest and peacefully assemble doesnt give you the right to do it in private property. The church is church property its open to its members and generally the public but that doesnt make it a public place or public property. If you want to protest a store, you are free to do so on public property outside the store. You are not free to do so inside the store disrupting the purpose of the establishment. The store is private property they are within their rights to refuse your business as long as it isnt based on a protected class.

A church really isnt any different, their business is worship and offering a peaceful place for contemplation, reflaction and prayer. If you disrupt that they can and should ask you to leave and should you refuse that becomes the crime of tresspass.

If you want to be empowered by your rights then you should first take the necessary time to understand them.

Tyranny of government invites terrorism from its constituents.

We have all heard the argument that when corporations intentionally make the legal option worse it drives otherwise law abiding customers to pirate the content instead because piracy provides a better service than paying the corporation for their kneecapped product.

I dont see how the same thing doesnt apply to governments.

The people tell you over and over they dont want to live under a surveilance police state. So natually the corporations and government work together to create a fascist police state and they expect the people to be good little slaves and simply sell their souls to their government.

Especially in the day of ai when they could just fake those images incredibly easily to frame someone. They dont need a patsy the next time they jfk someone they just find some sucker with a weak alibi from a list of potential suckers and then fake some cctv images and cell phone data and they can put you where ever they want to.

The only real defence is to buy your own body cam and document every moment of your life so you can have competing evidence.

At this point im surprised damaging the cameras is the only thing these activists are doing.

I wouldnt be surprised to see flock employees and corrupt politicians finding bombs under their cars. Which will likely be used to justify more cameras which will only intensify the terrorist activity.

The tree of liberty is long overdue for a good watering.

The mouse utopia experiment is nothing like having a pet mouse. Its more like exploring the way mice react to being institutuionalized. Its been a while since i read about it so i dont recall how much excersize or enrichment the mice had access to.

But from what i recall id call it more like a prison where all their needs are met and they have absolutely zero responsibilities, thus their current choices have zero impact on their future quality of life.

In people id expect that to lead to depression and mental illness which is basically what we saw in the mice. Im not convinced this experiment could be considered a utopia any more than a coed prison which also provides, food water and shelter but not entertainment or enrichment/stimulus.

Without entertainment/enrichment/stimulus even humans develop all sorts of problems like dementia, just look at nursing homes/classical assylums for the human equivalent/example.

Im confused, are you saying the famous mouse utopia experiment never occured and was simply imagined?

I have used my deck (multi hour sessions) for a long time from the couch, bed, and gaming chair and i found them all very comfortable. As long as your chair has arm rests then it shouldnt be too bad. The only place i havent used a deck much is at a table or from a bench with no arm rests, and i could see how either might be uncomfortable.

I personally still feel like the sky could be the limit, i have so many insane scifi fantasy type ideas for the future of tech but honestly i dont really want to see any of them become a reality because i know that with our current political socioeconomic system that tech would be used to abuse a large amount of people. The way i see it society is headed towards techno feudalism and the better the tech the more difficult it will be for the serfs to escape.

Ive got so many crazy tech fantasies though, im actually afraid to describe them for fear of giving the ruling class more ideas.

I just found HN not too long ago and i really like the insightful discussions, it reminds me of reddit before they started banning and censoring everyone for any disagreement with extreme left politics.

I remember i was banned from every single front page subreddit for asking a question about mask policy during covid. I think one week they said masks provided very little protection and they were in limited supply so individuals should stay home and save the masks for healthcare workers and then the next week they said everyone should wear a mask even if you have to reuse an old one for a week straight and even if your entirely alone. So i asked why the sudden change from one week to the next and might have said something like the previous advice made more sense to me and got banned from basically all of reddit.

And that was when i finally managed to kick my reddit addiction. So now i stumble across HN and it seems just like an early reddit except with one main community instead of a bunch of smaller ones. But i see a very similar trend already in the few months ive been lurking and the few weeks ive been commenting, ive seen what looks like political based moderation rather than conduct based.

Im all for keeping discussions civil and engaging but when you try to control which arguments are allowed to be made or block anyone from making a decent argument to favor one side over another then i lose all interest in anything discussed there because you cant have a discussion when one side cant speak. Thats why reddit is so empty today. You can have empty memes and pointless joking around but you cant talk about anything real unless your just a ranting raving lunatic because thats what you become when you dont have anyone to push back against your crazy ideas. Echo chambers are full of lunatics because echo chambers create lunatics. So if you want to keep this space full of actual discussion then dont allow it to become an echo chamber which means you have to defend the right for people you disagree with to have a voice in this space even if its just so that others can explain to them where they may have overlooked something when forming their argument.

Politically i find myself in the center because i tend to disagree with democrats about as often as i disagree with republicans but i can understand where they are coming from and often agree with the idea but i disagree with the implementation. But in my experience the only people who try to stop me from speaking are democrats. The only sites which have a censorship problem are run with a clear democrat bias. Personally id rather have a hate filled platform where people are free to discuss and associate than a locked down platform with no disagreement or hate or mean words where people arent allowed to talk freely.

I value civility but i value the freedom to discuss and thus the freedom to think about and articulate ideas far more.
