Absolutely not.

The actual paper instructions are super clear and don’t have all the junk distracting extras.

The art of communication is simplicity.

I’m not sure. LLMs are superhuman in terms of workload (they are maybe also superhuman in ability too), but where does that lead us.. cheaper software?

That’s good for corporations who need custom software. Every large business has a massive backlog. In this area reducing the cost will massively increase demand.

But where’s the broader value?

Consumers and business already have too much choice in off the shelf software.

Ultimately most people just need word, excel and maybe 4 computer games a year.

These have all been mistakes though.

You are conflating intelligence with usefulness.

I’ll say this until I am blue one the face. Nerds (software dev, maths etc) see how good LLMs are at things they care about and assume they will be broadly applicable in future.

There’s no reason to think this.

The government still has to maintain the infrastructure, whilst building more where the people have moved to.

Typing up English language logic into code hasn’t been a job for 40 years.

That’s what people mean by this.

Of course, but it is rare.

This is a good take. People overwhelmingly fit a narrative to how they make decisions rather than make decisions according to a chain of reasoning.

Stop projecting.

It’s just coding. It’s not every technical profession at all.

I don’t think it’s been common to write non fiction for money for decades. What they are doing is killing off the real motivation to do it, which is recognition and attribution.

We will all be sorry when professionally written and edited works disappear. An author has a reputation and the incentive to protect that reputation keeps standards high.

The didn’t pay for the books.

It’s massive copyright infringement.

The human buys the books.

I’m not saying software will be unprofitable. I’m saying Ai models will be low margin businesses. I think AI is going to decrease the price of software and allow us to automate things we couldn’t. I just don’t see how this value accrues to AI companies.

There will always be a space for perforce in a world of git.

Doesn’t mean perforce is worth trillions.
