In 1999, collapsed buildings far more than 17k - 18k and nobody knows how many people died. I remember some 800k - 1m estimations.
Today, just few videos shows at least 10k more houses was collapsed but "officials" says just 4k people died.
But honestly, without an easy solution like yunohost I wouldn't attempt to selfhosting personal mail even I already know how to do on different platforms.
Jokes aside, Android is just another mediocre hacks bundle from Google and has a great position in it's own ranks. But sharing the same meaning and quality with MS Windows; if they works even with some problems, everything is OK for end-user and corporations. Just put a little more money to the work and get the lead without a real innovation.
Maybe Firefox and Vivaldi to a degree but I would prefer more simple "world wide web" infrastructure if possible.
Years ago I was enjoy using 7zip, IrfanView and Winamp on Windows.
Let's more nostalgia; I was fond of almost every software on Amiga and of course AmigaOS/Workbench. I'm not a designer or musician but Deluxe Paint and Protracker makes me happy.
Turbo Assembler, Koala Paint, DMC and JCH music editors, GEOS from Commodore 64.
Not really using it daily nowadays, but OpenBSD still giving me sweet sixteen vibes.
But the first time, I was typing some very simple BASIC code on C64 from the user guide and a question popped in my brain: is it possible to change a program when it's running?
I was already a kid like to tinkering with basic electronics and mechanics but after this significant moment they started to decline steadily day by day and I put most of my time and energy to the programming.

focus on your development process not your operating environment.
Second, if you have internet connection just use free tiers of cloud providers' virtual private servers or even better use public access systems like freeshell, blinkenshell or sdf (this one not exactly linux but can open the door of a different experiences).

Third, dual boot with MS Windows or virtualization not that hard, just try.
Fourth, this is kind of counter argument to my first point but probably best in my opinion; come on baby, don't fear the reaper... Joking aside, don't fear and just break things and you will be alright; once upon a time, we were all there poor and without constant and fast connections, free services, online communities, etc. and we survived.
