Doesn't this depend on the model and quant as well vs. the hardware and its capability? Plus memory bandwidth, amount, and layout.

My Strix Halo now can run some models through the NPU and its roughly as fast as its GPU+CPU (on some of the models - some its slower)

Honestly MiniMax H3 looks better than this at most of the things I've been able to generate locally. These look super AAA game like - movement is uncanny and feels like it was trained on GTA3 or something like that - is this just me?

Dont be silly, it will be on the companies hardware. We're pushed to a rent to "use" model in so many things now.

Somewhere in Windows 11 23H2 (maybe newer - I haven't looked) is the Windows 3 program manager application.

They already had 32bit Win32 Windows on Windows (WoW) subsystems on all machines, even ARM64 to a point - the only thing I've seen that it didnt run out of the box was OpenGL which they have a (??!) Store app for Maya3d or something that does OpenGL to DirectX translation - and that seemed to work OK. The biggest issues I had with Windows on ARM64 was the lack of cooling.

Back on track - the 16 bit DOS and Windows stack is a lot different than Win32 - totally different windowing, drawing to the screen, and memory management is involved - it was probably pulled for security reasons and the most common one at Microsoft - "the guy who maintained this left or retired"

Ok, how is this a disappointment - what does it not have that the pro does that you're seeking? To me, this just looks like a large phone without cellular. Not sure I'd want this, as I already have a large phone - good enough.

Only available on the XBOX App for Windows. Nah. I even have gamepass ultimate and I'm not interested - more so now that they pulled CoD from it even. I just do not like the interface, updates to games, and its file management.

Windows NT (NT - Windows 11) keeps applications in their own private memory space by design. Windows 1,2,3,95,98,Me didn't do this which is why it was more prone to blue screens.

Someone was watching NT to Now on Youtube I see, and playing with the Application SHIM system. There are a lot of quirky things from NT still in Windows 11. I think that Clock.exe was finally removed a year or two ago from 1994.

It didn't where I live so this site doesn't do much for me. I'd love it though, I'm a huge fan of the idea.

Didnt someone have software rendering for Crysis on a third-generation Threadripper?

In the first waves of multimedia PCs - the CPU was tasked with doing sound, networking, hard drive control, etc. - pretty much all of the cost savings came from having minimal hardware for the auxiliary components and doing it all in drivers.

A common "Trick" was to buy cards that had essentially their own processors to handle this stuff - SoundBlasters, 3Com nics, IDE drive controllers that had their own processor (hell, even up to their own OS) since that freed the CPU up for doing actual work - gaming. Even an external or other

CPUs were a bottle neck but most people didnt tax the single core machines doing most daily work (office work, browsing the web) so it was fine, but once you load up a game that needs sound, 3d, networking, disk access all at once it would start stealing clock cycles trying to do all of that in one place.

Probably due to their panic for the 2023 secure boot cert stuff and or security issues being patched in uefi/recovery. It probably just bulldozes over anything there to lay down a clean boot partition.
