This story got kicked out of front page quite suddenly, not sure how/why. Lots of points and comments.

The author says that the resale value to PGE is 25% of the buying price.

Is there some way to get a better rate by selling CPU time instead, when the sun shines and batteries are full? Especially if you have your own server rack.

I have computing needs that can wait for 12/18 hours. Would it make any sense to have those processed by distributed solar server farms between 11am and 5pm? They just take data in and send results back, using their own "free" marginal kwh.

It would reduce the need the connect to the power grid, but still benefit from selling solar power indirectly.

Cloud providers may just be so much better at doing this already?

It reminds me of the Tao Te Ching of Laozi... and Jesus' parables in the New Testament.

So maybe your idea has a future...

I think this is an excellent discussion to have.

Say we implement this, a natural consequence would be mega-corporations providing every service possible. My Yamaha bike displays a message to promote a Yamaha music keyboard, then expanding to a new Yamaha bookstore or grocery chain.

No money exchanged out of the first-party Yamaha holding.

We would need to improve the proposal to prevent that too.

Thanks for the link, I think this is helpful and the tips resonate with me.

As I get older, the desires that "work" are very frequently the same ones as I had when I was a child.

I recently bought a new laptop, I did not buy the Office license for the first time and I am trying LibreOffice.

It's been a month, so far it's great, I hope I will be able to stick to it.

(I am an occasional user of Office, I used to be a heavy one.)

I have been using Blender to design 3D models, since I had some knowledge of it. Wondering why not more people are using it for CAD. Are the other tools much better? Why?

What's the distance you need to cover ? BLE use very little power, is wireless, can go 100m or so, max.

I have seen videos of small turtles going really fast on tiny skateboards. All of a sudden, they become a fast animal and seem happy with it. A bit like human with a bike or a car.

Feels like evolution is not as perfect as we want to believe sometimes.

Could something similar happen with sloths? Maybe their eyesight would improve quickly?

I am wondering if many Open AI engineers feel mistaken today for having promised to follow Sam Altman to MSFT after the board action.

Very interested in your first rabbit hole. Which servos did you use? Which gears? For me, it would be to use with an action camera. How many hours did you spend on it before you were satisfied? I've seen some arduino-based projects to do that, but servos look quite bulky... and with the right gears, very little torque / power should be necessary. But i have not spent the time yet.

> It also should be considered [...] on chance

To be fair to the author, this is very much mentioned.

And yes, luck has played a role as well. We closed out 2023 with a near-perfect record, but not without a few close calls.

Really neat. Thank you for posting.

Results are polluted for me with public transportation stations. I did not realize each of them had a wiki entry... of course geotagged.

Not sure how much parsing/filtering is done. Looks like the wiki entries for stations use a formated template "Infobox station".

I would vote to exclude those by default.

Also, in the list box, it seems I can only select to include result, not exclude. I would have done that for train stations and alike.

But thanks again!
