Have you ever lived anywhere else other than the UK? Almost everywhere in Europe has all the nice things you described, but cost of living is lower (parity adjusted - meaning you make less than in London in absolute terms, but the money buys you more quality of life).

No, it's a consequence of British rent-seeking culture, where all policy at the end of the day is evaluated by the question: does it make property prices go up or down, and if down we don't do it.

> Are there any downsides doing this though?

I have a different question for you, which is: what are the upsides? If you're doing because you think it's fun to share interesting stuff say that, but let's be clear about it.

You think the kind of propaganda you find on CNN is similar to the propaganda on Pravda...

Guys! I think I found one!

> You are correct, it has taken a dip recently. .011 now vs. .013 before.

You represent this ratio as 0.011 vs 0.013 to pretend it's a small difference, when in reality it's a 15% difference which is huge in forex. You're just fundamentally dishonest.

Funny, but what's the point?

In the UK you get 24 per day for all causes, and 0.8 per day for non natural causes. First off, the specific number you get depends on how your slicing the data. A 30 yo person doesn't have the same chance of dying from "all causes" as an 80 yo one. Second, comparing sports vs all causes is useless because all causes it's not really actionable. I could compare amongst sports to pick the least risky ones, but I can't choose to not be exposed to all causes.

Any thoughts?

> And last I saw the Russian currency was doing great

1 ruble is about 1cent lol

Like I said, I'm not sharing anything because you've already made up your mind. Ive skimmed your comment history and you're one of those "america bad" committed ideologies. Sorry, there's nothing I can do for you.

Interesting. Sounds like we should be sending them drone munitions then.

I mean, is it interesting? I'm sure it's a daily fact of war that conditions are never optimal and you try and adapt. I'm also sure there's a feedback loop somewhere with Ukrainians telling the west how much of which things theyd rather have.

So sure, let's send them more drone munitions, but why is this on HN? Oh right, because someone thought it was interesting.

> Except that they're proven to not work

If that's your objection, I have great news for you. They are proven to work, there's already scientific research in the case of Russia and Ukraine. You can't be bothered to inform yourself so I won't be bothered to search for a reference.

Well. Enjoy your jail time I guess.

Edit: looking into this guy and the volume of illegal stories he tells, I'm convinced that his real gig is being an "influencer".

I enjoyed the read, but I'm suspicious of the mention of Tucker Carlson as some sort of champion.

Somehow I don't think they would've written the headline "american astronomer discovers..." If the person had been american. To me it kind of seems like "oh look Spanish people trying to do science, so cute".

Yes but I bet you she's precisely the kind of person that when it matched her priorities, she sold it as a value in itself. Never outsource your critical thinking, I always say.
