There are already alternative shells. I think there’s some stuff fairly deeply rooted into gnu that’s an ‘issue’ for rebuilding and turns an effort into a complete redesign, making the whole thing hard to achieve.

Shells imo are legacy on legacy, I like bash and zsh, they’re nonsensical but they work. Powershell is undoubtedly saner, but I hate it.

I think the whole concept could be rewritten from the ground up to be modern, but reaching critical mass and mvp is too damn difficult, and the majority of mac/Linux users probably don’t want it.

If the keys are derived on demand and you have remote shell, you can derive them. If they’re salted with the users password, then it becomes impossible to decrypt them without the user being present which is problematic also.

I’m not a cryptographer and I can see flaws in your proposed system, I imagine someone qualified could poke some pretty glorious holes in your snake oil.

Speeding through school zones in a maximum impact people killer sure is fun too though

What does all this actually solve? Presumably SQL injection might still decrypt contents and order by/where clause enumeration would still be possible regardless. Keys must be stored in memory, on-disk or via a secret server meaning column encryption would not mitigate the impact of RCE/full shell compromise. Add in the cost of column level encryption when querying large volumes of data, this seems to be entirely angled at gold plated compliance security theatre rather than solving any actual problem.

Why have a default at all? Explicit is better than implicit.

What could a banana possibly cost Michael, ten dollars?

The fact that it’s only 6 months seems insane to me and probably the cause of the problem, if time was +- 60 seconds nobody would notice, so a more manageable solution would be to implement an arbitrary leap about once a decade, with a decades notice so everyone can sort their systems with plenty of notice. 6 months for a world wide coordinated execution is laughably optimistic.

That’s fair. Or possibly some mixture of thicc transport for major routes which fragments into individualised rides at the edge
Comment · 3 months ago
Why not? Public transport follows static routes, but there’s nothing to stop personalised routes based on whose on the public transport, especially while off peak.

This is the part I hate, enabled for every drive? What kind of hostile cockroach UX is that?

So what you’re saying is we need pressure sensors on the wheel to verify you’re holding it correctly?

Narrower windows will adjust the layout of the page to be more easily accessible for narrower devices like phones. This is a css feature and does not require JavaScript or similar.

In the context of the linked site which manually uses line breaks this won’t work well aside from fixing the scroll overflow, the text is small on my iPhone when zoomed out to show the full line width. A fix is better than nothing but does not perfectly fix the issue.

No, we were talking about cinemas, not live shows. Stop moving the goal posts.

Telling kids that they can’t play the game they can’t stop thinking about because all their friends play and talk about it constantly because the company is EVIL and because of morals works so, so well.
