Glad you said this. I had an oh shit moment of "was I supposed to be tipping them?"

If you've ever seen bus drivers in NYC, it's genuinely impressive how they manage to weave a giant box through the chaos. I'm not sure that self-driving tech will be able to replace them anytime soon.

This would be interesting for my native Kansas City though. There's a severe shortage of buses and it's much simpler driving conditions. Could be a game changer.

I'm curious about those half cars. So they start with a perfectly good car and cut off the back? Is that to carry more cargo or something?

Medieval astronomers were able to predict the orbits of planets surprisingly accurately, within 1/10th of a degree, even though they were assuming the Earth was the center of the solar system. They invented a very complicated system of deferents and epicycles (circles within circles). It was completely wrong but the outputs were surprisingly close to reality.

If we were using LLMs to analyze astronomy, we might just get increasingly complicated epicycles and never realize that the Sun is the real center of the solar system. We then never learn about the anomalies in Mercury's orbit that led to the theory of relativity.

So I agree. I seriously question how valuable LLMs can be in science/math beyond working as advanced search functions.

I feel you're conflating AGI and ASI here.

This is very napkin math, but the human brain has about 100 trillion parameters. Even the biggest models today top out at 10 trillion parameters. I think it's reasonable to assume that models need to be at least an order of magnitude bigger to capture the complexity of human intelligence, and probably a lot more.

> ...while you think you're getting away with something playing this game you're actually doing exactly what the business wants.

How so? I would think the business wants to spend as little money as possible.

Yeah, that message is a pet peeve of mine. Like, you know what I'm trying to do.

Can you post the prompt? I'm curious as to how much hand holding is needed.

Take a look at the AutoExpert custom instructions: https://github.com/spdustin/ChatGPT-AutoExpert

It lets you specify verbosity from 1 to 5 (e.g. "V=1" in the prompt). Sometimes the model will just ignore that, but it actually does work most of the time. I use a verbosity of 1 or 2 when I just want a quick answer.

Even 5% is uncomfortably high if you're planning to build your mission-critical infrastructure around it.

> And that overspend on aggression and displays of power is part of what hampers their economic vitality while the more peace loving west gets to devote more resources to non destructive pursuits.

I'm sure this has nothing to do with centuries of western imperialism in that region.
