Nuclear fans on HN don’t get that nuclear was the answer in the 90s, but is not today.

The problems in the U.K. specifically are more about grid capacity (both long distance and local substation level) and nonsense regulations (why can’t I have pluggable battery to go with my pluggable solar) than in generation.

Nuclear can’t provide dispatchable energy when supply is low and demand is high, same problem as renewable.

So you’re saying that nuclear has to be running 100% of the time at its highly expensive price per MWh (“base load”)

And that you can’t scale nuclear to provide all the power as the peaks are only needed rarely.

Which means that when other sources are cheaper (renewables), those must be banned to ensure nuclear gets paid more?

Pretty much, especially with their latest mess with “Zionism is racism” entryism, a leader who can’t lead, and a split between those interested in green subjects and rump Corbynites

Wow when nuclear power was the answer why we’re against it, but now nuclear power is too expensive compared with renewables plus solar they are for it.

How about some useful policies like removing planning constraints for grid expansion and solar farms and compulsory wind farms on golf courses owned by foreign billionaires

Early SNW was great. The problem isn’t too many “weird” episodes, it’s not enough “normal” episodes. In the 90s you could do 3 or 4 curveball episodes as you had 20 normal ones.

1988 was about peak tv, And TNG writers had Data claim that television would not survive much beyond 2040. Amazing how prescient that turned out to be.

Functionally they are. Allow traffic aiming at this address and this port to arrive on this server.

Not that my WireGuard connection needs nat as it terminates on my router. And I use private ip ranges as I want to be sure that if WireGuard drops out for some reason traffic doesn’t route over the unencrypted path. Defence in depth.

Microwave took decades from invention to being normal. VHS took weeks. The difference was pornography.

I can’t think of a single time I’ve wanted to connect between two hosts when I haven’t specifically allowed one through a firewall

What does such a package look like for a typical long term employee?

Not the hub. A node in a mesh. Remove yourself from the mesh and traffic reroutes.

Now if you have too many leaches and not enough contributors then you get a problem, but that’s not the same as a single point of failure.

It’s only censorship when a democratic government does it. When an unelected businessman with no oversight and more power than most counties does it isles just property rights.

You have to increase the width of the mesh.

Well yes, if you have 10 people on an island there’s only 240 hours a day. Have 20 people and it’s 480 hours a day.

You’ve then got efficiencies. If you have 5 slaves like the new feudal lords (and wannabe sycophants) want and the them to dig a ditch, if you provide a jcb you will get more ditches done more quickly. Work done per person you control increases which is good for you as you own the output.
